Mama Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation already has the largest open-pi- t mining operation in the world. Now it is planning to go underground to mine its copper, silver and gold. The underground mine will be directly beneath the huge open pit. Testing is already underway, and development of the mammoth operation is planned to begin in about seven years, with mining to begin between 2013 and 2015. Magna Times Utahns shoulder heavy tax burden... Based on the latest finalized data, Utahns carry the 1311 heaviest individual income tax burden in the country. On average, individual taxes in Utah consume $30.45 of every $1,000 of personal income, 21 percent more than the average. Of western states, Utahs ranks second heaviest behind Oregon, which does not have a sales tax. A recent Utah Tax Commission study says if the states brackets had been adjusted for inflation since 1973, a family of four with a taxable income of $27,300 or more would pay $525 less in annual income taxes and Utahs top income bracket would be $26,250 instead of the current $7,500 fixed by the state. A Telluride man has been placed on two years supervised probation pursuant to a plea agreement in which the man pleaded guilty to criminal computer libel and harassmentobscene language charges. He was also ordered to spend 60 days in jail following an evaluation. The man allegedly posed as a local woman and her sister, and placed their names and phone numbers on a site saying they were looking for sexual partners. Monticello The Utah Shared Access Alliance released vehicles that says results of a poll recently regarding the overwhelming majority of Utahns think roads and trails that have historically been open to the public should remain open. According to the poll, half think the county commissioners should be the ones to decide which roads and trails should cross federal lands; only ten percent think the federal government should be the ones to decide. He grazed his cattle in the summers on Boren Mesa, located between Mill Creek and Horse Creek in the La Sal Mountains, which still bears his name.
