The official opening of the fair begins each year with the finals in the Miss Duchesne County contest. School Calendar Announced Duchesne Doard The Duchesne County School District Board of Education has approved a school districts calenschool year, dar for the 1956-5- 7 it was announced by Supt, Rowsn C Stutz. sessions are scheduled for principals, teachers, custodians, lunch workers, and bus drivers during the latter part of August and first part of September. Classwork will begin Tues., Sept. 4. A social event and affair is slated for the afternoon of Aug. 30; a lunch workers conference will be held on Aug. 30-3the custodians conference is calendared for Sept. I; and a bus drivers conference is set for Sept. 3. Other dates Listed on the district calendar include the annual Utah Education Assn, convention during which school will not be held in the district. These dates are Thursday and Friday, Oct. 11 and 12. Thanksgiving Day recess is slated for Nov. 22 and 23; and school will let out for Christmas vacation Friday, Dec. 22, - and will resume on Wednesday Jan. 2, Pre-scho- pre-scho- During his visit, Sen. Bennett plans to meet with as many residents of the county to discuss problems of the area. "I hope to be able to meet as many people as possible while in Duchesne County, Sen Bennett said. I want to know how the people of the area feel about the issues facing our country today, and I will welcome questions or comments regarding the policies of the Administration. Sen. Bennett will arrive in the county Tuesday jnorning and will be accompanied by David C. Watkins, Chairman of the Duchesne County Republican Central Committee. He plans to spend time in a number of smaller communities of the county, as well as Duchesne and Roosevelt. Wednesday the senator will visit Uintah County and Thursday will meet with groups in Wasatch and Summit Counties. Merrell of Duchesne wara, will be honored at a missionary testimonial prior to his departure for the California mission. . t According to the bishopric of the Duchesne ward, who are arranging the testimonial, the program will begin at 8 p.m. and will be held on Sunday Sept. 2, at the , ward chapel. The newly called missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints, recently completed four years of service in the United States Air Force, He earned the rank of sergeant. He received his basic training at Parke Air Force Base in Calif, later transferring to Ft. Belvior, Virginia. Most of his assigned time following basic and 2 y2 months in Virginia was spent at Sampson Air Base in New York. Always active in the church, he held about every possible office in the Aaronic priesthood. He is a graduate of the Duchesne High School. , Elder . Merrell becomes the second son of Bishop Merrell to accept a mission call shortly after completing a stretch in the armed forces. His brother Glade is currently serving in the French mission, A special invitation is extended all members of the Duchesne ward and others to attend the fine program honoring Elder Merrell. He will enter the mission home on Sept. 5, and after a week will leave for Los Angeles, headquarters for the California mission. Students will trek back Tuesday to Elementary, Junior High and three of the (our high schools in Duchesne county as the district gets ready to open the 1956-5. school term. Doors at elementary schools and Union, Duchesne and Altamont high schools will open Tuesday morning following a busy week of registration, faculty and administrative meetings and other sessions. Tafoionas opening will be delayed until Monday, Sept. 10, according to Supt. Rowan C. Stutz, the extra time being needed for completion of the new building. They were welcomed to the college by President Daryl Chase, and taken by Dr. Carl Frisch-knech- t, Extension Service Director, to observe and have the Extension and Reasearch Specialists explain the research studies in beef, sheep pastures and crop production, in which they were chiefly interested. The importance of feeding balanced diets, disease and parasite control, sire selection, and other management practices that will mean greater profits and satisfaction to them in beef and sheep (Continued on Back Page) Four New Ford Busses Delivered To Spools Recently four new Ford School busses were delivered to the Duchesne county board of education by the L & L Motor Co. of Roosevelt. They will replace four older busses at a cost of $18,000. The new Ford truck chassis are equiped with Bluebird bodies. Officiating in the brief ceremonies that saw the new units tiansfered to the school district were Lynn Labrum, of L & L Motor Co., and B. president of the board. covers 29 Duchesne County routes that require a fleet of 33 units. A school bus operating generally lasts from 10 to 12 years, so it is necessary to buy 4 new busses nearly every year. The busses are maintained and repaired by the School District at the Duchesne and Roosevelt bus garages. Minor repairs and servicing are also provided at Altamont. The busses terminating at Tabiona, Myton and Neola are serviced at , service privately-owne- d stations.
