Marian Collins Pilots Car From Lawrence, Miss BEAT TROUBLE Massachusetts. TO THE DRAW Driving from Lawrence, Massachusetts, to California in a Durant 66 Sedan, Miss Marian Collins rolled into San Francisco during the past week, claiming to be the first woman d to drive one of the new Durant creations on a transcontinental trip, aceording to word received here today by Rud Victor, local Durant dealer, from the western Durant factory. From her home in Massachusetts, Miss Collins drove to New York, thence to Philadelphia, Pittsburg, Indianapolis and SL Louis. From St Louis she went south to Memphis, then to Little Rock and Fort Smith, Arkansas; Tulsa, Oklahoma, and back up to Kansas City. She then drove across Kansas and Colorado to Denver, south to Colroado Springs, Pueblo and Trinidad to Albuquerque and entered California State over the Santa Fe Trail. While In the southern part of the state. Miss Collins drove down the coast to San Diego and spent a few days at Coronado and Agua Caliente. She then drove north over El Camino Real to San Francisco and will spend two weeks in the bay district before returning east by way of Portland, Seattle, Yellowstone Park, Salt Lake Chicago, City, Cheyenne, Omaha, Toledo and Cleveland. When Durant factory officials com mented on the extent of her journey, Miss Collins remarked that it is noth ing for a woman to drive across the continent alone. The modern motor car is so efficient and the roads so good that the average woman is just as capable of driving a car from the Atlantic to the Pacific and back again as the average man. Good roads, fine climate, and ex cellent service have combined to make my driving in California the most pleasant part of my trip so far," said Miss Collins. Asked for her opinion of the transmission now in use on the Miss Collins said, in Durant 66, her opinion, it was an improvement that would have do be adopted by all makes of cars, as it was the greatest aid to driving since the advent of brakes. Furthermore, the droppings haibor disease germs without number, and intestinal worms besides. Droppings should be removed frequently and used for fertilizer away from the flock. Dead birds should be burned or buried deeply, and a regular cleanup program should be carried out often. This, with the regular use of a good coal tar dip and disinfectant, will prove very effective in preventing diseases and insect pests. Of course, disease may take its toll of any flock, no matter how carefully cared for. As a rule, however, any extra effort invested in such preventive measures as those described above will pay big dividends. Strong, healthy fowls, protected as much as possible from the various sources of disease, will resist epidemics that would wipe out others. They are also more vigorous and productive in every way. (Copyright, 1929 by Dr. In the roistering days of the old wild west, the fellow who was the quickest at getting his gun into action had the best chance for long life. Consequently, it was not surprising that men spent hours practicing the art of beating the other fellow to the draw. Their lives might some day depend on it Today, far less effort invested in preventive measures would save the lives of thousands of fowls that now are sacrificed every years in this country. L. D.
