Methods of bringing pressure on members of congress to expedite legislation for the relief of war veterans end of promoting Americanism and stamping out radicalism entered largely into the discussions today of the executive committee of the American Legion.1 which met In a three-da- y ' session. A committee was appointed to Investigate alleged discrimination In the civil service against former service men and to recommend legislative action. F. W. Galbraith, national commander, declared it was a dirty outrage that the government refused to recognise its duty toward former service men In appolhtment and promotion In the civil service, especially In the postal service. ,v The executive committee approved the suggestion of the commander to devote all Its energies toward obtaining lmmedi- ale pasage of pending legislation for tho relief of disabled veterans without "receding one Inch In Its demands for soldiers' which, however, will not compensation, be pressed. The Eastman For several years the department of justice has been pursuing this monopoly and only within the past few days has the Eastman comand consented to a pany gone Into decree which dissolves the kodak trust 4nto several component parts Frank K. Nebeker, assistant to the ate torney general, has been in charge of the case against the kodak trust since he took up his present duties and la largely responsible for bringing about a settlement out of court before the appeal of the Eastman company has been even argued In the supreme court. The Eastman company in the future wilt continue to manufacture kodaks and will contlnuewto manufacture the Eastman films and certain grades of photographic paper, but under the consent decree they dispose of all the competitive companies which they have been buying up in years past, and as soon as the new arrangement goes into effect there will again be real competition In the photographic supply business. Jjust what Is accomplished by the decree entered in the federal court at Buffalo, N. Y., is explained In the following statement by Mr. Nebeker; The decree enjoins the defendants from practicing any of the unlawful and unfair practices complalnted of In the bill "It compels the defendants to sell and dispoee of to Independent purchasers the lines of cameras, photographic papers and dry plates which have been acquired by the defendants from others. Including the fully equipped plants In which the various lines of cameras so to be disposed of are now being manufactured "The decree strictly adheres to the findings of Judge Hazel of the westerijjdia-fric- t of New York, before whom the case was tried. i The properties to be disposed of by the defendants are: t Rochester, "The Premo factory N. ' All trademarks and trade names, designs. etc for both lines of cameras are to pass to the purchasers The defendants are also to dispose of their Artura brand of photographic paper and their Seed, Stanley' and 'Standard' brands of dry plates, and to .disclose to purchasers the formulas therefor In oonection with the paper and dry plate lines, the defendants are also to offer for sale their plant located at Jamestown, N. Y. "The sales of 'Artura paper atone In 1120 amounted to $2,066,000, and the combined saiea In all lines to be disposed of bv the defendants aggregated In that year $7,146 000. It Is understood that the defendants paid $1,000,000- for the 'Artura' formulas .atone "The defendants are to' proceed with nue diligence to sell the properties referred to to Independent purchasers to be approved by the attorney general, and If sale are not effected within two years from the date of the decree the same are to be sold at publio auction to the highest bidder at such upset prices as may be agreed upon by the attorney general and the defendants! or.
