Although other companies are, and have been, drilling in Ifhle field for oil with encouraging re-- i suits, heretofore no deep test wells have , been put down. Unusual Interest is at-- 1 1ached to the activities of the Associated Oil company, due to the fact that this has announced the Intention ( organisation , of drilling a holo sufficiently deep to ! test out the whole cretaceous formation. Hitherto wells in the Big Plney field have been drilled on the crest of the anti-cllat points recommended by the ! United States geological survey report. In a number of Instances these shallow wells have developed favorable showings of oil and gas, but no test of the deep - 'sands have as yet been made. The derrick of the Associated Oil comone been mile has erected about pany from Big Plney, according to Christian ' Vrang, geologist for the compaiiy. Drilling operations will begin this week. The 'equipment installed at this wall by the company, the Wyoming branch of the 'Associated Oil company of California, is, according to Mr. Vrang, one of the most modem In the state. Tools adequate for Use in any emergency are upon the d ground; an derrick has been erected, and thoroughly equipped shops provided. ' Two boilers provide power for drilling operations and also for a dynamo which generates electricity for lighting purposes. Casing sufficient for boring to a depth of 6000 feet Is upon ths ground and a complete set of fishing" tools has been provided. In view of ths complete equipment already upon the ground, Mr. Vrang is confident that drilling operations can be pushed steadily without any Interruption. Considerable Balt Lake capital has been utilised In ths exploration of the Big Ptney field. Several of the companies operating in ths district have been financed almost exclusively by Balt Lake men. At present there are, besides the Associated OU rig, three standard rigs In the company'saddition to several drilling mafield, in seventy te - ne i eighty-four-fo- ot triple-brace- er I Tintic Standard Fairly Active; Silver King Consolidated Takes on Strength. The occurrence of oil in this part of Wyoming has been known for more than half according to ths United States century, geological survey report. In 1814 the survey suggested that drilling tests be made on this anticline, and systematic operations have since developed a small supply of oU. The oil of this field It of a very high grade and contains a large percentage of gasoline and other hydrocarbons. -light The Dry Piney oil field is probably one of the highest oil fields In the world. It dies on the east side of the Wyoming range, on what is known as La Barge ridge, at an elevation of about 8000 feet above sea IsveL Those wells already drilled have been situated upon an anticline in which the beds of the Adaville formation of upper cretaceous age are the oldest rocks exposed. $7 8 go.
