Preparations are well under way for the big Christmas entertainment and tree to be held in the clubrooms on Christmas morning for the poor children of Salt Lake and for the various other projects which the members of this association indulge In each year at holiday ! time. In the basement of the clubhouse the rooms are beginning to take on a festive The tables are plied high appearance. with stockings made of gaily colored materials and large enough to fit the fattest Santa Claus that ever drove a reindeer. The feet of these Christmas hosiery are fully one foot in length and the legs When measure about eighteen inches. fruit they are filled with candy, nuts, and other goodies the children who. receive them are going to be happy, beyond a doubt, for quantity means more than quality to childish hearts, and in this Instance the quality will he there, too, for the best of sweets will be none too good for the guest at the Elks' Christmas tree. Then there are boxes full of toys of all sorts; toys that were a little damaged in shipping and that were donated by the merchants of the city. They have been carefully mended by members of the city fire department, who volunteered for this task. The fire laddies are very busy and these days with paint what not. for the work ranges from the very delicate task of restoring the complexion on a doll babys face or making a sither xlth as it should, to replsclng a broken wheel on a wagon, Intended for fairly heavy traffic.
