M. Thomas, la charge Of the local unit of the R. O. T. C It became known yesterday, following receipt by lieutenant Colonel Thomas of a letter from the war department. lieutenant Colonel Thomas has been retired from active service because of physical dlsabU- -. tty. lieutenant Colonel Thomas commenced the organisation of the high school unit of the R. O. T. C. in March, 1119. Students from the Bryant Junior, Bast high and West high schoold were trained. Dur-- corps lng the winter of 1919 and 1994 the reached a maximum number of 1MT students. It la expected that there will be a smaller number of students trained this year, as ninth grads students ere not eligible for entrance end twelfth grade students are not compelled to train. While there was only one Instructor end sn assistant last year, there will be an Instructor and flvs assistants this year. Approximately $100,000 worth of equipment is used by the corps. Nine member of the unit were sent to the army Infantry camp at the Preaidlo In tbs summer of 1919 for six weeks' training, and 10S were ordered to report at Camp Kearny last summer. Tbs unit was inspected twice by Colonel M. N. Falla, R. O. T. C. Inspector of the western department, and once by his assistant, Captain W. McNamara. Everything la In readiness for the big annual celebration of peach day, and because of e combination of circumstances, the event this year promises to bs the greatost ever. The biggest feature is, the coming of a presidential candidate. Governor James Long Awaited Event is Here by a nonpartisan commit tee headed by Mayor John W. Peters. This arrangement was entered Into between the Peach day committee and the Democratic county committee, because of th feet that Peach day is a nonpartisan affair, and WT one In the community is anxious to take Cox advantage of the visit of Governor es e feature for Peach day, and Brighama of visit the make to City, rather than purely partisan political function. But the presence of this distinguished visitor wU not b the only big thing on the Pedch day program. The committee has outlined a program for the day that will use up practically every moments time and provide entertainment which should satisfy everyone. The first big attraction win be the. street parade which will reflect the commercial, social and religious life of been county. This feature has not restricted to Brigham City alone, but the entire county has bean Invited and persuaded to participate so that a big pageant Is promised. This attraction will be on at 11 oclock in the morning, at which hour practically all the excursion trains will have disgorged their load of human freight at the depots. Following the parade will bo an Intermission for luncheon and to make ready foie the reception to Governor Cox. Mayor Peters end the reception committee, com-N. J. Lowe, posed of T. H. Blackburn, W. C. Simonson end Wynn L. Eddy, will meet the distinguished party et the O. 8. L depot, where a parade will be formed end move up Forest street to Mein, couth on that thoroughfare one block and back to the courthouse, where a speakers stand has been erected, and from which the governor will deliver his address, fallowing the address. Governor Cox and party wul be escorted back to their train and the Peach day program will proceed as outlined. The free peaches end melons, of whloh an abundance has been provided, will be distributed at Pioneer park, beginning St S oclock, so that everyone can be filled up before the ball gome, which la scheduled for I oclock-- The game will bs played between the Peaches and the Lav-to- n team, champions of the Wasatch league. Following the bell game at the ball park. Diamond Dick Evane and his company of broncho busters will stags a wild west show. There will bo sores other events to supplement these features. bend conoert will be given et the courthouse at 8 oclock, and at 7 o'clock the big street carnival dance will begin on Main street In front or the city building. At 8 oclock at the ball park a mixed boxing and wrestling bill will bs presented. , Ira Dern of Salt Lake and J.' Emil Peruse will stage the main wrestling bout, and some classy preliminaries have also been provided.
