He enjoyed reminiscing with family and friends and he was an excellent storyteller. Ray loved his family and he will be dearly missed by his children and grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, April 2, East Carbon LDS Ward. Burial was in the Blanding City Cemetery, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price. John A. Schafer, Sr., long time Moab resident passed away April 2, 2004 after a short battle with cancer. John was bom May 16, 1934 in Los Angeles, Ca. In 1951 he in enlisted into the Navy and served in the Korean War. He married Marylin on March 28, 1959. They had celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary before his passing. John loved to spend his time fishing, hunting and being with his dog out in the yard. He loved and cherished his family especially his grand children. John had a wonderful sense of humor and he always had a joke for everyone he saw. John is survived by his wife Marylin of Moab, son John Schafer II (Tammy) of John Moab, grandsons Schafer III and Drew Schafer of Moab. He also had three daughters and five grand children all of Las Vegas, Nev. As Services will be held April 8 for Maxine Harrop Maxine Hawkins Harrop passed away in Ogden on April 4, 2004. She was born April 8, 1928, in Long Beach, CA to Fred D. Hawkins and Zola Christensen. Maxine grew up in Moab and graduated from Grand County High School in 1946. She moved to Ogden in 1946, where she continued her education and graduated from Ogden Business College in 1950. memShe was a long-terber of both the American Legion and the Eagles Auxiliaries. She worked as a secretary for Ogden City Schools and served as a volunteer for Moab, Utah 84532 Don W Palmer & Kyle Kimmerle Planned Parenthood and the Dept, of Aging. She was a Cub Scout den mother for six years. She married Donald C. Gordon Sr. (of Moab) in 1946; he died in 1955. She married per Johns wishes there will be no services. CARD OF THANKS The family of Ida Palmer Dalton would like to express our thanks for the many kind things that have been done for our family over the last few weeks. Thank you all for the meals and goodies, the beautiful flowers, the cards and letters, the phone calls, the prayers, and the kind words. Thanks to all the doctors and nurses at both Allen Memorial Hospital and St. Marys. We would especially like to thank Terry from Hospice for his visits, the information he shared, and the coordination of services. Thanks to Moab 3rd Ward for helping with the funeral, and for the wonderful meal after the funeral for our extended family. And thanks to Kyle at Moab Memorial Mortuary for making Ida look beautiful. Mary was bom August 3, 1911 in Hailey, Idaho to Galo and Rufina Maderieta Arambarri In 1929 she married John Cortes. They had four children: Louis Cortez, Manuel who died in infancy, John Cortes and Dolores Cortes Hamel. They later divorced. She married Ben F. Smith Sr. in 1941 in Preston, Idaho. They lived in Bingham Canyon, Utah where he worked as a minor and she had a boarding house. They had one child Ben F. Smith Jr. Ben and Mary moved to the Ogden, Utah, area and owned several businesses. In 1954 they moved to Moab where they purchased property and built the Park Side Trailer Court. They also built a laundromat and a drive-in- . At that time they sold hamburgers five for a dollar. In 1975 they sold the Park Side and retired to their present home in Spanish Valley.
