The Sexual Assault Victim Advocate Center (SAVA) out of Fort Collins, Colorado, in co- llaboration with Seekhaven, gave two performances of the play, Until Someone Wakes Up, which is about sexual violence, on Monday, March 15. Two versions were performed, one at Seekhaven, which included scenes dealing with homosexuality and gender socialization and the other at Grand County High School, which excluded the homosexuality scenes, certain language and words, and an overall toned down version of the original. Until Someone Wakes was written by visiting Up Professor Carolyn Levy and 21 of her students at Macalester (Jess) Angie Nellie (West) Massey, and his two brothers, Roland and Edward. After growing up on ranches in the Gateway area, his family moved to a ranch in La Sal, Utah, and after 1948, he made his home in Moab, Utah. Harold was first and foremost a cowboy, but he also worked for the State Road Department, the U.S. Park Service, drove for Tours, and worked as an extra or a wrangler for several western movies filmed in Tag-A-Lo- Moab. Internment will follow in Sunset Memorial home - and and its caused by the resistance in the wiring and other electrical conductors along the way. Voltage drop is comparable to a drop in pressure in a garden hose when its outside When your home was built, an electrician estimated how much electricity would be used in the various rooms and typically sized tire wires to the minimum requirements of the electrical code for outlets and lighting. It wasnt very long p service, ago when and even service, was considered adequate, and relatively few wiring runs and Outlets were installed to serve the entire home. Even today, its not unusual to find one branch circuit serving many outlets in many rooms of a house. f Times have changed, however, and home electrical consumption has skyrocketed. If your home hasnt been rewired since it was built, you may experience voltage drops when power use temporarily 60-am- 435-259-94- point-of-us- 1 . 1 .(Kust l.anr Don W Palmer & Kyle Kimmerle exceeds Electricity flow is measured in amperes (amps for short) of current. Basically, the farther the current (electricity) travels, or the smaller the diameter of the wire, the greater the voltage drop. Also, the voltage drop increases as more current is drawn. When this voltage drop is excessive, or when it occurs on top of a brownout or marginal voltage at the service, it can damage electronic circuits, dim lighting, and cause electric motors and appliances to run slow or overheat. p Upsize Wiring or Add Circuits One remedy for voltage drop is to upsize your homes wiring. Thicker copper wires offer less electrical resistance. That means replacing wires with wires, or replacing 12gage wires with systems capacity and these can severely affect the life and performance of appliances, tools, toys and electronic systems. A voltage drop occurs between the electricitys - typically a transformer - AnyDay... Flowers create smiles. All of the scenes are derived from true stories. The performance is comprised of approximately 15 short skits and begins with the statistic, Every 45 seconds someone is raped in the United States - usually by someone they know. According to SAVA, it has been reported that one in four women and one in 17 men in Colorado have been victimized by sexual assault. Until Someone Wakes Up uses scenes that depict common relationships between parent and child, and and women that SAVA Center Interim Director, men Alanna Sherstad, says, sets the stage for sexual violence. Another remedy is to run additional branch circuits, so the load on each is lessened. Adding branches is often preferred in home offices or other areas with a lot of electronics. An electrician can easily calculate voltage drop at different points throughout your home and run new wiring or install additional lines and outlets to relieve the problem. Voltage drop doesnt affect all homes, but it frequently occurs in larger houses or ranch-styl- e homes with long wiring runs, and in older homes with undersized wiring or very long runs. Electronic equipment is particularly sensitive to voltage, so if your home office or entertainment center is a long way from your electrical panel, or too many electrical devices share the same circuit, it could be a problem. Voltage drop also can be a hazard where inadequately sized extension cords are used. Extension cords need to be sized according to the manufacturers amperage and distance recommendations for indoor or outdoor use. Joe with a bazooka and yell how cool it is that hell be able to destroy things with it. The scene ends with Barbie and G.I. Joe left alone, hoping to find something in common. The scene is intended to depict that women grow up learning to be passive and pretty, whereas men learn to be combative and macho. Society then expects men and women to grow up, get along and get married. Other scenes use the after-mat- h of a sexual assault to convey the trauma and conflict that is often felt by survivors and their families. The seven-volunte- er act- ing ensemble, which has been sponsored by SAVA for the last four years, travels throughout Colorado performing variations of Until Someone Wakes Up for schools, communities, Girl Scouts and perpetrators of sexual violence. Some of the actors work as counselors at SAVA and several are in college. Most have been involved with the play for several years and have written new scenes themselves. After each performance the actors debrief with their audience, answering ques- tions and encouraging dialogue. The shy GCHS audience asked few questions after the performance, which is because the entire student body was present. When asked what they thought about the gender socialization scenes, one female student commented, In Utah we see more gender socialized roles than in other states because were conservative, but thats starting to change. Another female student said, The play gave a real view of how sexual assault really is rather than the guy jumping out of the bushes. Some students commented that they didnt understand some of the gender socialization scenes, such as the Barbie and G.I. Joe skit, or when several actors took turns speaking as if they were one person. I thought you made it look like men are the bad guys who commit rape, commented a male student. More than 99 percent of all rapes are committed by men, replied one of the actors. Although only 10 percent of the male population commits rape. Alanna Sherstad ended the debrief by saying, Many of the people who told their sexual assault stories say that they knew it was going to happen before it did.
