Most people dont realize that the gas stations and convenience stores in their community are owned by small businesses, with owners that live and work in their neighborhood. Unlike hypermarkets that lack a true commitment to local communities and send all gross profits back to corporate headquarters, the corner gas stations, even those flying a major oil company flag are hometown businesses that provide a significant and continual investment in their community. Neighbors Serving Neighbors is a campaign by and for Petroleum Marketers to help consumers differentiate them from poor corporate citizens that lack community involvement. Not only does your neighborhood petroleum marketer live and work locally, but they contribute to their communities in many ways like sponsoring baseball teams and assisting with school fund raisers. In addition, WPMA awards eight annual $4000 scholarships to graduating high school students in member western states. When you buy gasoline, look for the Neighbors Serving decal in the store Neighbors window or on the gas pumps where you shop. By supporting local small business owners, many of whom are 2nd and 3rd generation businesses, you can be sure that you are supporting an active member of your community, who is involved and in- vesting in your communitys economic growth.
