Do you want to be part of an international organization dedicated to improving the world we live you answered yes to any of these questions then the Moab Lions Club may be the place for you. The Lions (dub is extending an invitation to all interested men and women to join them at an open house at Lions Park by the Colorado River Bridge on September 23rd from 6.00 to 7.00 p.m. A light meal will be served and guests will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about becoming a member of this fun loving group which has served the commu- nity since the club was founded in 1930. For many, awareness of the Moab Lions Club may be limited to a tion as they recognipurchased a ham- burger or drinks at a community event such as the spring car show or received a Lions calendar from a club member. Those are only two of many fund raising events in which the Lions participate each year; however, they only represent the fringes of vs hat the group accomplishes behind the scent's. Foremost among the many programs supported by Lions International and the members of the Moab Lions Club is the Sight First" pro- gram which represents a world wide effort to prevent and reverse the major causes of blindness. Each year the Moab Lions provide funding to enable needy children and adults in the community to obtain eyeglasses and receive other eve care when they would be unable to afford it otherwise. One area in which the Moab Lions have long been visible is in relation to Lions Park on the banks of the Colorado River at the junction of US Highway 191 and Utah Highway 128. The park got its start in the 1950s when club members cleared trash, weeds and shrubs to form camping and picnic places. The park has evolved over the years with improvements being added in response to community and visitor needs and that process is ongoing with current consideration being given to the potential for some major upgrading. National Park Service announces Fee Free Day September 20 This year the annual Fee Free Day will be celebrated as an interagency event on Saturday, September 20, 2003. On that day the National Park Service will join the other Department of the Interior bureaus and the USDA Forest Service to waive entrance fees to celebrate the annual National Public Lands Day.
