Show Jage B5 Jihc cEtnifSInbrpcnbnit Thursday, Comments sought on major seismograph project in Book Clifffs BLM s Vernal Field Office invites the public to comment on an environmental assess- ment analyzing a proposed three dimensional seismic exploration project in the Book Cliffs region of Uintah and Grand Counties. Comments on the accuracy and adequacy of the EA will be accepted through August 4, 2003. The proposed Moon Ridge project would map the subsurface geology of the 23.3 techsquare miles using a technology using It would include nique. 1,469 small diameter, 60 foot deep shot holes in which small explosions would be set off The vibrations from those shots would be measured by 3.234 geophones (these will be walked in and hand set). There will be 28 source lines (86.9 miles). The shot holes will be fdled and plugged at the completion of the seismic project. No Virboseis trucks will be used. The steep and rugged terrain dictates the use of truck or drills and drills. Surface impacts would include about 100 acres, approximately 6.7 per cent of the 14,912 acre project area. To minimize the impacts, existr ing roads would be used w balloon-tireand possible vehicles will used. Some soil 3-- shot-hol- e buggy-mounte- d heli-portab- her-eve- d compaction and vegetation disturbance would be expected. Mitigation of these impacts will include raking and water-ba- r construction as needed. Short-terdisplacement of wildlife and stock would be expected. Long-terimpacts of this project would be minimal, and are considered in the draft EA document. SeisThe Moon Ridge mic Exploration is proposed by Trace Energy Systems, Inc. Lands that would be affected by the project are managed by multiple agencies: 66.9'T by the State of Utah Institutional Trust Lands Administration. 30.4 ri by the Bureau of Land 3-- State Historic Preservation http:Hwww.blm.govutahAer-nalnepa.html- .
