The Showcase Program has base organizations adopting streets and other areas. The ICBM F-- Showcase Program. Hill's program was modeled after the Adopt-A-Highwa- y program and is designed to help improve the base's appearance. The program was expanded to include parks and other shared public areas on base in order to present a positive first impression for visitors, and pleasant and clean environment for base personnel and residents. "The Showcase Program helps improve the exterior appearance of the base and helps make the base a better place for all of us. It improves our image," said 1st Lt. Paul Waite, assistant chief of Maintenance Engineering. "There are 21 organizations participating right now. However, it's changing by the week as new people sign up." Signs with organization symbols are placed in areas that have been "adopted." Lt. Col. David Roe, 75th Civil Engineering Squadron commander, has compiled some expectations for Showcase team participants so organizations know what requirements are, but encourages groups to use their creativity. "The guidelines only put bounds on what their responsibilities are," said Roe. "It's really up to the group to make their organization's project reflect their quality and professionalism. We encourage other organizations not in the showcase to sign up to become a program participant. We started the program because it was successful off base. We've expanded it to include more than taking care of roads. Our goal is to go that extra 5 percent to make this base look fantastic, not just great. There are alot of improvements that we can make around the base. Organizations are free to come up with their own ideas. As base visitors, occupants and workers travel around and they see these signs they notice who the best organizations are based on the projects associated with those areas and how they're maintained' Roe said a little friendly competition among organizations may be the spark needed to really spruce up the base appear- - ance. The Comptroller Directorate cares for some roadways near the West Gate. This month four employees spent about two hours apiece weeding and making the area more presentable. They anticipate spending a little more time on the project after surveying what needs to be done and how often maintenance is required. "It's a chance to do something for the base and keep it clean. If organizations don't have ideas for projects, CE has mapped out base roads and can assign an area. "We're trying to get the highest visibility roads taken first," said Waite. "The 5-1- 4.8 oz. Organizations aren't supposed to adopt things that are directly around their building or organizational things. It's things that are used for the public good like parks and public areas.
