The following examples, taken from the "Safe At Home" brochure developed by the Utah Attorney General's Office, describe some of the ways a person can be abused: Physical shoving, slapping, hitting, punching, kicking, choking, shaking, using weapons or objects that can cause harm and restraining or threatening to harm you, your child or a friend. Sexual acting violently or physically harming you while having sex, forcing unwanted sex, forcing sex after a violent action, raping you or using objects to cause harm during sex. Unfortunately for thousands of individuals throughout our country, home has become a place of contention, anger, bitterness and often violence. And No hat it can be reached if we as individuals take it upon ourselves to do what we can do to help eliminate this blight in our midst. Awareness is the first step in reaching this goal. The next is taking action when we observe violence in our own homes, or the homes of neighbors, family and friends. Unfortunately violence, like a cancer, won't stop on its own without definitive intervention and treatment.
