Show August 12, 1999 fiDM Kudo would like to give a "Kudo" to Paula Speth the Information, Tickets and Tours manager. Recently, I made hotel reservations at one of the hotels that contracts with Tickets and Tours. They quoted me a price much higher than what the Services voucher allows. When I went to pay for the vouchers, I talked to Paula about their problem and she immediately got on the phone and spent quite a while trying to get this straightened out for me. She is very friendly, polite and helpful. This is not the first time that I have received such friendly and professional treatment from her, and I am sure it won't be the last. I want to thank her for her help in this matter, and for the service that she and others there provide for us. Softball safety concern is that was struck with a softbaM pMy two games were going on k1 Monday night while over the bubble. I I hapthe small softball fields by Little son's to be League watching my pened game while another softball game was going on so my back was to the other team. Somebody hit a homerun on the other field and it hit me in the back leaving a big bruise. I'm concerned that somebody could really get hurt. If a small child had been sitting where I was, they probably would have been knocked out, and there are a lot of small children around that area. I was wondering why there is there is no type of netting or anything between the ball fields since they are so close together? f 75th ABW Commander r the future. I would think that TSgt's would be promoted before you would promote SSgt's because SSgt is the easiest rank to make and TSgt is the hardest rank to make. I'm confused about why a SSgt was picked before a TSgt. Please explain. I r Thank you for the call. The Stripes for Exceptional 1980 and was designed to meet unique circumstances in which, in the commander's judgement, clearly warrant promotion. The promotion is limited by Air Force guidance to E-- E-- and E-- each going to the next higher grade. Just as the name of the program implies, it is designed to promote only the most "exceptional performers." On Hill AFB each commander was given an opportunity to submit one nominee for each eligible grade. Unfortunately, the stripes are extremely limited and only a few can be chosen. We believe we selected the best and most deserving nominees. All commanders are directed not to tell nominees that they have been put in for this prestigious program so there will be no hard feelings if they are not chosen. So you should not know that you are a possible STEP candidate unless you are chosen. STEP is not intended to balance an AFSC or give pref4, i 5, 6, erence to a particular grade because of the perception that grade may be harder to make than others. I believe you will find that as you progress in your enlisted career ladder each grade will get harder and harder to obtain. Busy signals? moved to mil trom 7landrecently called the Youth Center to inquire about m-- u Keny ai-- b summer programs. On that particular day I called several times and each time I got a busy signal. I decided to call the operator and inquire if I had the wrong number. She informed me that I had the right number. I told the operator that I had called 10 times within that hour and each time received a busy signal. I subsequently asked "what would happen in an emergency situation and I need to contact the Youth Center? The operator responded that she would not be able to breakin on the line because it's not a government line. There was no driver or passengers, aside from the dog, present. The dog did not appear to be comfortable. He was panting real hard and the windows of the cruiser were barley cracked. I understand that as of recently it's against the law to leave any living creature in a vehicle, especially in the summer. I would think that we would all be more aware after the incident involving the children who died last year in the back of a car trunk. It doesn't take long for a parked vehicle to get hot, no matter what the temperature outside. What steps can be taken to avoid this from happening again? f Thanks for your call.
