In a unique collaboration, String Fever and the RubberBand will delight audiences with incredible blue-gras- s performances! String Fever is a group of five amazingly talented, young musicians who are not only great instrumentalists, but produce tight, vocal harmonies in coun.four-patry, bluegrass, jazz and folk. Their rt BMX bicycle races youth and energy have excited audiences around the country and in Europe. Members of String Fever are Robby Ricks, age 16 on . . . Poison Spider Bikes in conjunction with Spanish Trail Arena and the City of Moab have been running BMX bicycle races behind the Spanish Trail Arena for free every other Saturday for several months. Now a five race points series is being held for free with prizes ranging from grips and pedals to complete BMX bicycles. The first race of the series was held on October 5th with riders earning from one to 10 points per moto depending on their placement in the moto. Three motos and. one main are held for each age group at each days races. A maximum of 40 points can be scored by a rider in one day. Although winning is great, sportsmanship and fun are the main emphasis of the races. Its still not too late to participate in the series. Points are cumulative for the next several weeks and the finals, to be held on November 30th, are worth double points. Prizes will be awarded to all participants, so nobody loses! The meeting will be held at the Edge of the Cedars State Park in Blanding. Items of interest on the agenda include routine matters of tourism, a presentation on the Blanding Destination Development Project, and upcoming community meetings con- cerning the Utah Travel Councils Strategic Plan. Members will be reviewing and approving the Safe and Drug-Fre- e Schools budget for the 1996-9- 7 year. Community members and agencies are encouraged to attend. String Fever was the youngest band to win Tellurides National Band Championship in 1993. They also placed in the top four in the 1995 Pizza Hut International Band Championships held in More than 50 people attended the Candlelight Vigil sponsored by the Grand County Domestic Violence Coalition last Thursday. The participants started their candlelight walk at Swanny City Park, proceeded down Main Street, and ended at the county courthouse lawn. Local, Hen Kei Taiko Drummers accompanied the group with a meditative beat. The vigil was organized in order to honor victims and survivors of domestic violence and to raise community awareness. Several speakers addressed various aspects of this issue, such as the cycle of violence, what to do to get out of a violent situation, and steps to take to change violence into peace and harmony in our own homes and in our community.
