Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 1 for Robert O. Bob Babcock, 67, who died Nov. 7, 1993 at his home in Spanish Valley. He was bom Jan. 6, 1926 in Thomas, Mich., to Harry 0. and Marie E. Robbins Babcock, and attended schools in the Montrose, CO, area. He married Charleen Adams on Dec. 6, 1946 in Layton Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Feb. 28, 1966. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed Moab, Leanne (Ned) Blackmon, Moab, Trina (Randy) Kizer, Gillette, WY, and Marcy Babcock, Ogden, UT. Also surviving are two brothers. Merle (Thelma) Babcock, Blue Lake, CA, and Donald (Pat) Babcock, Hay Fork, CA; 12 grandchildren, two four and four While living in the Montrose area he was a mechanic, and worked on all types of motors, airplanes, diesels, heavy equipment and automobiles, and was a truck driver. In the Salt Lake City area he owned a salvage yard and later ran a gas station. Moving to Moab in July 1979, he ran a salvage yard on Holyoak Lane, then returned to truck driving. He was terminal manager for Savage Bros. Trucking, and lastly worked as service manager for Interstate Bulk Service until he retired in 1988. Survivors include his wife, Moab, a son, Steven R. (Jean) Babcock, St. George, UT; four fishing, and always helped anyone who needed it. He loved his family and friends and put their needs before his own. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign A memorial fund has been established through the. Moab VFW, P.O. Box 682, Moab UT 84532. Services will be held at the LDS Stake Center on Locust Lane, with Bishop Edward Johnson officiating. Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Disch Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. The Service's Monticello Ranger District of the Manti-L- a Sal National Forest received an award from Governor Mike Leavitt and First Lady Jackie Leavitt for outstanding volunteer work as part of the Take Pride in Utah program. Receiving the award here is Duane Resare, center, forestry and recreation technician for the Forest Service in Monticello. The district coordinated more than 92 people to construct the Nizhoni Campground on the southern flank of the Abajo Mountains north of Blanding, as part of a relocation agreement. An old campground. Red Bluff, was in an undesirable location and was moved to a better spot and renamed Nizhoni, a Navajo Indian word meaning "beautiful place." The project which won in the Youth Category, required numerous activities trail including fencing, construction, water system replacement and volleyballhorscshoe pitching courts. Among local groups helping with the project were several boy scout troops, Blanding West Stake LDS youth, forest service employees and family members and other community volunteers. Award recipients were honored at a luncheon with the governor and first lady at the Governor's Mansion. The event was made possible by donations from Aptus, Kennecott, and Mountain Fuel Supply. The Take Pride in Utah program is a partnership of federal, state and private agencies which encourages citizens to take responsibility for preserving and enhancing the state's natural cultural and historic public resources. With the recent passage of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990, and consistent with the American Indian Religious Freedom Act of 1978, the National Park Service recognizes the need for sensitivity and respect re garding the management of the American Indian religious and cultural features found within Mesa Verde National Park. During recent consultation with several American Indian tribal communities, it was the request of these communities that the luminaries not be placed directly in Spruce Tree House Ruin as has been done in the past.
