Parents of 16, the bride are Mrs. Karmelita Mayhew and the late Frederick M. Mayhew. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Ronald D. Dolphin. Michael Ferguson was camped in an area approximately ten miles east of Moab and two miles north of the Sand Flats Road, along with other young people from Park City. At approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 26, he lost his footing while climbing down from a slickrock fin, feet and fell approximately 100-12- 0 to the ground. A group of Moab young people camped near the group heard calls for help and made their way to the injured youth, while another member of their party raced to Moab for assistance. Grand County Deputy Sheriff Jim Houghton activated the County Rescue Team, and then followed the Moab young man back to the scene of the accident in his Sheriffs vehicle. According to Deputy Houghton, due to the inaccessibility of the area in which the accident occurred, the giggj He suffered neck fractures, two broken ribs, a fractured femur, compound tibia and fibula fractures, and multiple abrasions. The victim was reported Tuesday in stable condition in intensive care at the Colorado hospital. Bill was bom in Booneville, AK on June 6, 1932 to Mattie and Melvin Phillips, the second of six children. He was honorably discharged from the Army after serving in the Korean Conflict. He then moved to Moab in 1955. Here he met Margie LaBranch and they were married on Nov. 3, 1956. He worked for Union Oil until 1974. He later worked for TexasGulf until 1986. In the summer of 1987, Bill had a serious accident which resulted in the loss of his left leg. Being a fighter, he refused to let this disability hold him back. In the last years of his life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodwoiking. He is survived by his wife, Margie, his three children, Mrs. Dennis (Dana) Palza of Logan, Utah; Mrs. Rholand (Kari) Murphy of Moab; and Kirk and Cindy Phillips of Ignacio, Colo. Other survivors include eight grandchildren; two brothers, George of Elko, NV and John of Booneville, AK; two sisters, Joyce Smith and Helen Murray of Booneville, AK. Bill was a friendly, talkative person who was liked by all who came to know him. He will be missed. May he rest in peace.
