Five test pits are proposed in Lockhart Basin and four in Lavender Canyon. The DOE also proposes to place 13 tiltmeter survey instruments in Lockhart Basin. The instruments will be used to detect deformations of the rock formations. About 50 surveys electromagnetic have been proposed in an area bounded by Canyon-land- s National Park, Highway 163, the Colorado River, and the Manti LaSal National Forest. The surveys will also be used to detect possible brine zones or major hydrologic anomalies. The DOE also plans to run seismic reflection lines in Shay Graben, Lockhart Basin, Lavender Canyon, the Colorado Lineament and the Needles Fault. The lines would vary in length from two to seven miles. A variety of atmospheric tests have also been protowers posed. Two 197-foand two instrument build- at Shay Graben and Lockhart Basin are scheduled for July and August of this year, and at Davis Canyon during October and November. Each excavation would be open for about one month per site. Tiltmeter surveys are planned for October and November of 1982. The DOE has proposed conducting seismic reflection tests in late 1982. The tests are expected to last about three weeks. Atmospheric Testing Atmospheric monitoring is scheduled to begin in December of this year, and continue for a one-ye- ar period. Installation of the meteorological towers would begin about three months prior to monitoring. According to the AE, the test trench excavation would require about five workers per day, and test pits four workers per day during excavation and testing. Tiltmeter surveys would require from one to two persons per day and electromagnetic surveys a maximum of six workers. The seismic reflection tests would require a workforce of about 14 people per day.
