Show The Times-lndependen- Thursday, Feb. 28, 1985 t, A3 Film Promotion Board charts a course for bigger effort in 1985 Ip a special effort to help the sagging economy, the Moab Film Promotion Board is targeting to Moab as a major film center. "Although we are presently working to recruit a number of major features, nothing is guaranteed until we actually get them here, cautioned Ken Sleight, President of the Board. In the meantime, the Board and Central Services are working to organize the local resources. Competition for location sites is high, and we want to be equipped to provide them with the best services possible. While we are highly concerned about getting the best deal for local rentals, services and accommodations, it is the responsibility of the Film Board and Central Services to work toward fairness to both the film industry and the local market,", he noted. When a company is ready to come into Moab, it is the policy of Moab Film Promotion to see that the company has a list of all motels, . restaurants, and services. The list is provided through the Central Service office. When extras and special expertise are needed, efforts are coordinated with Job Service. In order to insure fairness, Moab Film Promotion has designed several registration forms to collect information on what is available in the Moab area for hire, rent or lease. This may include services, props, equipment or special talent. Forms may be picked up at the Central Service Unit, 150 East Center, Room 202, or at the Old Spanish Trail Camera Shop, 550 North Main. Persons interested in working as an actor or extra must submit a photograph with their registration. For those who do not have photographs suitable for submission, one may be taken at the Old Spanish Trail Camera Shop for fifty cents. It is not the intent of the Central Service office or Moab Film Promotion to act as an employment agency or broker. The staff will serve only as a liason between the film companies and the local businesses, agencies, and individ- Director of Central Services, when a film company first becomes interes-- . ted in the Moab area, they ask many questions about the availablity of services and equipment. "It is up to us to assure them of just what is available. It is the film companies responsibility to select the services, accommodations, agencies, equipment and employees with whom they wish to work, she stressed. President Sleight announced that the Board is also recruiting persons interested in serving as resource people on the Film Board committees. He pointed out that this is a job uals. According to Bette Stanton, reserved for only the most sincerely interested in the development of the film industry in Moab. It involves many long hard hours with no pay and little compensation. For .example," he said, we offer complimentary location guide service and the guide furnishes his or her own vehicle, donates his or her owntime and ability, and receives only mileage at 23 cents per mile for the trip. The Board has authorized mileage for scouting and meal expense for the location scouts and guide. Any additional board or committee members accompanying the trip must cover their own expenses. The more companies we recruit, the more expensive this becomes," he said. Therefore, due to a very limited budget, we must hold a tight rein on the expenses. Sleight encouraged all people interested in getting involved to contact Central Services. Moab Film Promotion is scheduling a fund raising dinner for March.
