'.'Our kids played hard, but in that first half we were a lit tle cold and their defense shut us down. I told our girls to not worry about the cold, but we could never get wanned up; we aren't used to playing in this weather." Lehi's goalie, freshman Lynsey Asay, said her defense w as the key to the shutout. "Our defense helped me out a lot. especially when it counted." she said. "We knew that if we could get ahead early, we could win the game and that's what we did." PARK CITY 3 WASATCH 0: Holly Winter scored twice and Jordan Kruegar score the other Park City goal to lead their team into the state finals against Lehi. "We'll go to the big game since we've already accomplished more than what I thought we could." said Park City coach Julian Martinez.. Wintzer opened the scoring at the 19 minute mark of the first half said Dons coach Everett Kelepolo. "We ran the same plays we've been running all season. The problem wasn't slipping; the problem was that it looked like everyone was running in slow motion." Quarterback Quinn Hampton threw four touchdow n passes, giving him 29 TDs on the season, and ran for another. Hampton seemed to have no problem holding on to the cold ball and totaled over 200 yards on the night. Receiver Joel Higginson scored three times for the Dons: twice on receptions and once on an intercep tion return. The Spanish Fork defense came up big as well, forcing six Payson turnovers and stilling the Lions' running game. Even when tacklers came out of a pile-u- p Uxtking like Frosty the Snowman, the Dons enjoyed every minute. Higginson began the scoring by picking off a pass in the fiat and racing 48 yards for a score in the first d Hampton to quarter. North Sanpete closed out the 1 in 3 A regular season at northern division play, while Carbon tumbled to 7 on the year and in league play. The Hawks scored first in the second quarter when quarterback Allen Jacobsen found receiver Justin Thompson in the end one from 3 yards out. Carbon scored the equalizer with 40 seconds remaining in the half when Dino quarterback J.D. Jorgensen hit Kenny Timothy on a pass. North Sanpete nearly scored before halftime when Jacobsen hit 7-- 1. 6-- 2-- 1 Page BJ when she punched a shot past goalie Carrie Summer-hav"We knew we would have to play the game of our lives to win," said Wasatch coach Dawain Wheatley. "That first goal they scored just killed us." Indeed it should have been Wasatch that scored first, but six shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of play proved fruitless for the Warriors. "It was a physical game. They are a very physical team. We just came up short," said Wheatley. The senior Kruegar scored Park City's next goal to put the chill on the game which was iced by Wintzer who followed a Kruegar shot. "We know if we play our " game we can beat them Lehi said Kruegar of today's championship match.
