The paper said Calcavecchia shot a 73 in the final round of the Texas Open. He knew he shot a 74. A phone call later, Calcavecchia was disqualified, forfeiting the $10,817 he won. "He called in here this morning saying he'd seen the score in the paper and recognized he had a 74, while the paper said 73," PGA Tour director of information Dave Lancer said Monday. "We had a scorecard faxed to us from Texas and went over.. it hole by hole with Mark." Lancer said. "He signed for a 4 and actually had a 5." Signing an incorrect scorecard is an automatic disqualification. Calcavecchia was traveling to Japan on Monday and was not available for a comment, spokesman for International Management Group said. While Calcavecchia remained 27th on the PGA Tour money list despite the disqualification, it did move him closer to several players trying to break into the top 30 and Tour qualify for the season-endin- g Championship. The Pacific-- 1 0 Conference and UCLA are looking into the sale of a car by Harrick's son. Glenn, to Lisa Hodoh on Sept. 20. The sale came two days after the woman's brother. Baron Davis, d a point highly-recruite- guard from Santa Monica, verbaliy committed to play for the Bruins. Asked if the investigation is a distraction on the eve of the official start of practice Tuesday. Harrick replied. "Not to me." Harrick and others connected with the university are not allowed to comment on orders of athletic director Peter Dalis. who attended Monday's basketball media day. "We'll get closure very soon,'" , Dalis said, without giv ing ii.f, timetable for the conclusion of Uur , investigation. The secretary general of (AP) Hungary's swimming federation was suspended for two ears today by the sports world governing body for falsifying Olympic qualifying times. The Hungarian federation itself escaped with a "severe warning" from FINA. the international swimming federation. Secretary general Jozsef Ruza. who admitted knowledge of the scandal, was banned by FINA's executive board "from any international activity" for iwo years. FINA acted following disclosures that half of Hungary's sw minting team qualified for the Atlanta Olympics based on fictitious times from a meet that never took place. Eleven of the 22 Hungarian swim team members had not met Olympic qualification times at national and regional meets. So a phantom meet was held last June and imaginary times were entered.
