And they often could be seen talking to their ships just as if they were alive. Captain Video fought dozens of interplanetary villians, all bent on conquering the world and beyond. One of the best was Tobor (spell it backwards), a deadly robot that seemed to be invincible. At least, it was invincible for several episodes until he finally ran into Captain Video. The Captain constantly came up with dazzling devices for thwarting his enemies such as the Cloak of Invisibility. There were other tools that made it possible to see through walls or enable one to shoot bullets around a corner (no kidding). All looked as if they were put together by the neighborhood kids in somebody's back who was played by Marvin Miller who later starred in TV's The Mil- lionaire. ABC also did a live version of Buck Rogers during the 1950-5- 1 season with first Kern Dibbs as Buck and later Robert Pastene. And there also was an early TV version of Flash Gordon starring a sulking Steve Holland. The three biggest successes, however, remained Captain Video, Tom Corbett and Space Patrol. All three were heavily influenced by radio's adventure programs. on TV became Eventually sci-a bit more sophisticated with shows such as The Twilight Zone, Science-Fictio- n Theater and Star of them, including Earth 2, all trace their origins back to Captain Video who rocketed from galaxy to galaxy make the universe safe for all of us earth-ling- s.
