To begin with, you need a camera that will focus close enough to fill the frame with the image you are trying to copy. That's no problem with a modern SLR camera with a macro lens. For example, I use a Nikon with a 50mm macro lens that will focus down to a couple of inches. It will fill the frame with even a wallet-size- d old photo. Other cameras and lenses have similar ability. And, of course, if you have a cut film camera you can get the same sort of close focus. And the film, usually 4x5 inches, will make the copy easier. Tape the old photo to the wall or similar background, and mount your camera on a tripod. It's essential that you set a steady support for the shot.
