Lehi wres tier c ofnes up a winner in most endeavors By DAVE NATTRESS Herald Correspondent LEHI Some people are blessed with an innate ability to be successful at whatever they try. Lehi wrestler, Jason Tahbo, certainly fits into that category. Case in point. As a seven-year-oin his first year of wrestling, he won the state freestyle championship. In his first year of the Junior Jazz basketball program, his team won the league championship. In his first year of organized contact football, he helped lead his team to a first place finish. Jason's success isn't limited to just athletics, however. When auditions were announced in 1981 for the filming of the motion picture Windwalker, Jason's mother took ld him to Park City for a tryout. After Jason's first interview, he was promptly offered the role of a Cherokee Indian five-year-o- ld of the spoils of being a movie star, included having his boy. Well, there may be one thing. His mem says he could stand a little improvement in keeping his room clean. Jason's athletic success has continued into his high school career. On Saturday, he won the Pleasant Grove Invitational at the 171 pound weight class and earned the most pins award. I took him a combined time of five minutes 28 seconds to pin his three opponents. Jason is a great wrestler, said Lehi wrestling coach Mark Grant. "The three keys to being a good wrestler are balance, speed and strength. Jason is blessed with all three. In fact, he has as good as balance as I've ever seen. He's also a great leader and is our team captain this year," he said. Jason's interest in wrestling started early and was inspired by his father. Did Denver's defensive effort in the AFC Championship game provide the Washington Redskins with the secret to shutting down the attack? Have the Skins been given an unmalchable edge against the Buffalo Bills? Have Jim Kelly and his buddies been exposed? no-hud- "Denver caught Buffalo off- - guard, I think," Redskins defensive coordinator Richie Petitbon said Tuesday. "I don't think we'll catch them off-guar- d. "Denver put great pressure on Kelly, played a lot more man defense and was dogging (blitzing) more than most teams have done. The Broncos hadn't shown those things that much and the Bills wer- en't expecting it." The Broncos were so effective in the AFC title game that they held the Bills to 12 first downs, 213 yards and 30 points. It wasn't enough to get Denver to its fourth Super Bowl in six years, but it was impressive. "It was surprising," said Pro Bowl receiver Andre Reed, held to two receptions for 19 yards. "It surprised me a lot. Everybody felt we should have scored a lot of points. "The week before, Denver did not play as well against Houston. They felt they had the No. 1 defense and had a lot to prove against us." The Redskins have proven to be one of the NFL's stingiest defenses all year. Only New Orleans allowed fewer points. Washington comes to the Super Bowl with an entirely different defensive scheme. The Skins substitute like crazy, even to the point of having a first-dow- n (Matt Millen), a second-dow- linebacker n line backer (Kurt Gouveia) and a LB (Monte Coleman). They line up differently. They're bigger. third-dow- n "Denver runs a 34 and we have n front," Petitbon said. "One of the strong points of our a four-ma- defense is we like to use a lot of people. That's hard to do with this offense. That's one of the things the does to us and we could be hurt bv it." I |
