A low pressure system stirred up thunderstorms that stretched from northeastern Texas to western Kansas. Storms also clustered over sections of the Mississippi and lower Ohio valleys. At least six tornadoes were reported over Arkansas Friday morning. One, in Concord, damaged about 25 houses and destroyed several mobile homes, including the sheriff's, authorities said. No serious injuries were reported. "I started out the door and it blowed me back in," said Carl Cousins, the Sheriff Wallace Coopwho was in the er's father-in-lamobile home at the time. On the New York Commodity Exchange, gold bullion for current delivery rose 10 cents to settle at $363.10 a troy ounce. Republic National Bank quoted a late bid for gold of $362.30, up 50 cents an ounce from Thursday's late bid. Analysts said the dollar moved higher for no clear reason.
