Perhaps it is Leno's relentless America's comedian and Johnny Carson's favorite talk show host, willerform one show only at Symphony Hall March 14 at 8 p.m. Leno, who was called "the funniest comedian working today," by David Letterman, is also the hardest working comedian of his stature, averaging 300 performances annually. When Leno is not performing he can usually be found tinkering with one of his 24 cars and motorcycles. Leno has sold out shows from New York's Carnegie Hall and Los Angeles' Universal Amphitheatre to venues in Grand Forks, Bismarck, and Counci Bluffs. Leno's tremendous success was built on a unique brand of humor that is as rare as it is funny. Without relying on props, offensive material or Jay Leno, best-love- d travel through middle America that keeps him fresh and in touch with the lives of people who watch him host "The Tonight Show," every Monday night and during Carson's vacations. Leno was raised both in New York's Westchester County and in Boston, where he attended Emerson College and began working local nightclubs while supporting himself as a Rolls Royce mechan- ic. Christmas concert Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the The Spanish Fork Children's Theater will present "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" Friday, Saturday and Monday at 7:30 p.m. Performances will be in the little theater at Spanish Fork High and admission is one dollar. The play is a tradition with the children's theater and will be directed by Anna Murdock. The story is taken from the popular book written by Barbara Robinson. With a cast of 50 local children, the production features many favorite Christmas carols with the music directed by Karma Christen-se- n. The group will hold their annual Christmas Concert Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. The concert will include traditional numbers as well as lots of new music. The group will travel to Temple Square Dec. 5 to perform. They will sing at the Church Office BuiMing that day at 1:30 p.m. wioth performances at the Assembly Hall at 6:45 p.m., South Visitor's Center at 7:30 p.m. and the North Visitor's Center at 8:15 p.m. The group is under the direction of Elmo Keck. School in Mt. Pleasant String quartet The Brigham Young University Honors String Quartet, an advanced student chamber group, will perform Saturday at 9 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center. Admission is free. The ensemble includes Becky Rogers and Amy Jacob, violin, Leann Morgan, viola, and Jim Hardy, cello. They are coached by BYU string faculty member David Dalton. The program will feature one of Beethoven's quartets, the String Quartet op. 59, no. 5. They will also perform a Spanish impressionistic work, "La Oration del Torero" by Jacquin Turina. Friday welfare children who discover the true meaning of Christ- Choral groups busy holiday Arts calendar Electronic music An electronic music concert Saturday will feature original compositions by Brigham Young University music students. The concert, entitled "A Sonorous Symphony of Sounds," will begin at 6 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center. Admission is free. Those who like pop music will "Rasu-movsk- enjoy the concert, says instructor Gav-le- n Hatton. "This is the same kind of music you hear on radio, television and movie soundtracks." Included on the program will be "Click' by Mark Call, "Submarine Races" by Nathan Tanner, "Ocktohbrr" by Howard V. Taylor and "Enertia" by Peter Urmston." The compositions were created in the BYU electronic music studio. Nutcracker ballet The Central Utah Ballet will present performed by the band include Chance's "Incantation & Dance" and the always popular "Under the Double Eagle" march by Wagner. Student Center Ballroom. The UVCC Symphonic Band will begin the concert with their rendition of Alpred Reed's "Festival Prelude." Other selections to be The UVCC A Capella Choir and Chamber Choir will follow, performing "Fascinating Rhythm" by Gershwin; "Tonight" by Bernstein; and works by Tschesnokov, Rutter, and Lovelace. Christmas selections include traditional carols as well as two works from Benjamin Britten's "Ceremony of Carols." Several vocal and instrumental soloists will be featured. Watercoior exhibit "The City," an exhibit of water-colo- r paintings by Cynthia Fehr are on display at the Loge Gallery Dec. 5 to 22 in conjunction with Pioneer Theatre Company's production of "The Miser." The exhibit is open to the public daily Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays until 1 p.m. and to theatregoers before and during intermissions of "The Miser." located on the mezzanine level of Pioneer Theatre, Broadway (300 S.) and University (1340 East) in Salt Lake City. m?m mum UVCC offers students a complete curriculum for those who would like to major in any aspect of music.
