The plump appealing dolls are "bag people" with weighted bases; easy to make and inexpensive. It would be a simple matter to put together a set for Christmas; either as dolls to match the recipient or as an entire Nativity set. Tuttle .has created patterns for three groups of roly-pol- y dolls, the All Purpose Potpourri, the Nativity Potpourri and the Fall Potpourri. Each pattern has instructions for making a half dozen dolls including a Santa and Mrs. Kris Kringle, an angel, a turkey, a pilgrim couple, a reindeer, a lamb, a cow and a donkey. The All Purpose kit has a baby doll, a clown, a cheerleader and a football player. Each takes about an hour and a half to assemble, starting with a fabric base filled with batting. The pattern and materials are available at the Orem store. v . 's ridicule in a home. Whereas most gifts lose their desirability after a few months and their value after a few more, because they are gifts of quality, heirloom gifts increase in meaning and value with each passing year. (AP) -Place mats and linen tablecloths have gone the way of long white gloves at two Seven Sisters colleges because of budget problems. Smith College recently dropped its tradition of serving Thursday night dinners on linen tablecloths by : candlelight when the school, facing a $2.6 million shortfall, decided to phase out the school laundry, spokeswoman Mary Reutener said Monday. "We're sad to see it go," she said of the tradition, which disappeared from other Seven Sisters campuses long ago. Nearby, at Mount Holyoke College, place mats were dropped this year to save about $10,000, said spokeswoman Vee Wailgum. Efforts to bring the school in 5 percent under the $60 million budget Include dorm competitions to save electricity and a switch from individual cereal boxes to bins at breakfast, Wailgum said. ."Gracious living comes pretty great-grandchild- share timeless design, exquisite or birth certificate, the first morta Montblgage check or the last anc fountain pen will forever add ceremony to important family occasions.
