Show SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1988 I Recreation p On your mark get set, snow! By DOUG WILKS Assistant News Editor 0 1 l sj ii .m -- Linda Walker gazed through the ninth floor Cliff Lodge window up beyond Peruvian Gulch where heaven on skis meets heavenly skies. Snow had threatened for a week, but only the top of Snowbird's 1,900 skiable acres was white, the remnants of a light dusting from days before. It's a Monday afternoon, three weeks before Thanksgiving, and me cold temperatures and grey skies carry the smell of winter. There is reason to believe snow is on its way and with it, true thanksgiving from the hundreds of thousands of skiers who will come from around the globe to an American hamlet called Utah. Walker is the year-roun- d manager of The Cliff Spa, spread across the ninth and tenth floors of The Cliff Lodge at Snowbird resort. Her breathtaking daily view of the mountains is interrupted only by her busy wintertime schedule. But this day, all is quiet. For her, and the other employees in Utah's resort areas, now is a time for hope, preparation, and waiting. (See UTAH, Page 3A) |
