Donell and Denise Willey went on their morning walk, discussing the future of their children, and the opportunity of language education. Their conversation prompted an innovative plan for teaching a foreign language to children at an early age. The couple created "Willie's World." Willie is a grasshopper that takes children through a variety of experiences, discoveries, and thoughts. The books expose children of all ages to learning a foreign language in an easy manner. Instructions are geared to chil dren Deiween months and 18 and tentatively Russian or 5 "The need for competency in languages besides our own has never been greater," he added. "Responsible political, educational and religious leaders stress the importance of learning a second language. Every day our world is shrinking; other countries and languages are no longer confined to vacations or movies." The series consists of illustrated story books printed in two languages, and an accompanying tape which narrates the story in both languages. The first printing will feature Spanish, Italian, French, Arabic, Hebrew, and Greek. "Willie's World" is a program. Book I, "Willie's Animal Friends," includes nouns (animal names), articles, and basic present tense verbs. Future plans for the other nine covbooks include erage of a variety of nouns, verbs, conjugation of verbs, history, simple technical and 10-pa- rt begin studying foreign scientific terms, and other grammatical terms. Directing the choirs will be Mack Wilberg of the Music Department faculty, who is in charge of both the Men's Choir and the Concert Choir, and Jean Simons, a former Layton junior high school choral conductor and a current graduate student in conducting who leads the Women's Chorus. The Men's Chorus will offer a series of sea shanties, "What Shall We Do With a Drunken and "A Sailor?" Whale of a Tale."
