Doctors sure don't waste any time when it comes to asking for their money. Frankly I think the medical profession, like any other service, should not be paid when they don't do the job or fix what is St. Louis Philosopher wrong. Dear Phil: Your letter made a lot of sense until you got to the part about not paying doctors who fail to "fix what is wrong." Surely you know that some patients are not going to get well no matter what the doctor does. Especially is this true of elderly patients who deserve good care even though the prognosis is bleak. When they get it, the physician is entitled to be compensated for his time and effort no matter what the outcome. Dear Ann: I've been a heavy smoker for 20 years. Love You In Oklahoma City Dear Love: The essay you requested was written by Cathan Moore of Oxnard, Calif. I am happy to run it again. Thanks for asking. FOOTPRINTS One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. In each scene he noticed two one sets of footprints in !he sand belonging to him and the other to the Lord. When the last scene flashed before him he looked back at the footprints and noticed that many times along the path there was only one set of footprints. He also noted that this happened during the lowest and saddest times in his life. This bothered him and he questioned the Lord: "Lord, you said once I decided to follow you. you would walk beside me all the way. But I noticed that during the most troublesome times of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why. when I needed you most, you deserted me." The Lord replied. "My precious child. 1 love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering when you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." Dear Ann Landers: Can you stand one more letter about the woman whose nose was out of joint because the physician who had attended her elderly mother for 15 years did not attend the funeral? It would never occur to me to expect a doctor to come to a patient's funeral, unless of course, they had a social relationship outside the office. A doctor is a professional who a While it service. is performs more intimate in nature than most services it does not mean he or she is your personal fnend. To assume H VV Ann Landers CALL ,w 1 12.
