Show TV Pae 4 - THE HERALD. Proo, Utah. Monday, September to. 1984 Ask Peggy Are Those xHardy Boys' S tors Related? By PEGGY OROURKE Corpus Chrtstl, Texas, The news departments of TV remind me of the legends of tht early days of journalism when people would do anything to keep a rival from getting a "scoop.'" The networks are so eager to beat out the opposition that they do interrupt with bulletins, some of which could easily wait for the - CASSIDY BOYS Are David Cassidy tad Shaun Cassidy of The Hardy Boy and The Partridge Family related ia any way? M.E Hoi Springs, Ark. both The boys are sons of the late singer and actor Jack Cassidy. David is the son of Cassidy's first wife and Shaun is the son of his second wife, Shirley Jones. GREMLINS Ia a columa you said Jane Havoc was the wife of Fred MacMurray. I'll bet is surprised to hear that. He thought he married Jane Haver. F.H., York, Pa. You are not the first one to write about that. I recall the y question, because it asked if was married to Gypsy Rose Lee's sister. I answered that June Havoc was Miss Lee s sister and MacMurray was married to June Haver, but somewhere between the typewriter and the printed page, something got left out. I ll admit a mistake when I make one. This was not one. COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT I would like to know why so many shows are interrupted or canceled by news reports. I do believe that it is important to be concerned and informed about today's news situations, but when they cut into a program and the program doesn't continue where it left off, that's going too far. There are specific times when news is programmed to come on. And there are always the newspapers. Since this deals mostly with NBC, CBS and ABC News, I would like to know where to write them. Concerned But Fed Up half-brother- s, next scheduled news program. But they like to put out press whichreleases about how they ever network it was were first on the air with whatever news. For your letters, write to Roone Arledge, ABC News, 1330 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10019. Write Bill Leonard at CBS News. 51 W. 52 St., New York, NY 10019. For NBC, write Reuven Frank, NBC News, 30 Rockefeller Plaza. New York, NY 10020. I heard that DREAMY GUY John Stamos, who played Blackie on General Hospital, is starring in his own series, Dreamt. Tihat channel will it be on and what is it M Z., Oak Lawn. HI. about? Stamos is indeed starring in Dreams, which will be on CBS this fall. Wednesdays at 8.30. It is about five young Philadelphians who have a rock band. By day they work and at night they do gigs. Each show plans to incorporate a "videolike' sequence which also advances the story line. REAL DOLL My question has to do with one of the dolls ia Return to the Valley of the Dolls Catherine Hicks. What was the TV show she was in where she had supernatural powers? And Tim something or other played her husband. What was his last name? C.T., Columbia, Pa. Mac-Murr- - Mac-Murra- - The series, which was on CBS 1982-8was Tucker's Witch. Tim Matheson played Miss Hick s husband. She was also a regular in the series The Bad Sews Bean, playing Dr. Emily Rap-pan- t. She won an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in the TV' movie, Marilyn: The Untold Story. in 3, FRIENDLY DISPUTE -P- lease settle a disagreemeat I am having with a friend. She Insisted Sally Field played ia several of the Cidget movies. Pleaae tell me if she is right and if so, how many mories did she star ia. I thought Sandra Drr played Cidget. D.B Little Roek, Ark. You are correct that Sandra Dee created the role of Gidget in the first movie called simply Gidget, released in 1959. James Darren was in that one, as well as 1961 s Gidget Goes Hawaiian, with Deborah Walley as Gidget, and 1963 s Gidget Comet to Rome, with Cindy Carol as Gidget. There was a 1970 TV movie called Gidget Grows Up, with Karen Valentine as Gidget and a 1972 TV movie called Gidget Gets Married. This time Monie Ellis played Gidget. However, Sally Field did play Gidget in the 1965-6- 6 TV series which ran on ABC. Don Porter played her widowed father and Betty Conner and Peter Duel played her older sister and brother-in-laMiss Field was 18 when she got this role, and it led her to stardom. BAD NEWS CONFIRMED -Last week I read of the reported death of Jack Barry while he was jogging ia Central Park. Now I Still see The Joker's Wild and I know the shows were done ahead, but I have heard aothiag else to confirm what I read. Perhaps yoa can help add to what 1 know. F.S- -, Erianger, K. What you read was true. Barry, on vacation at the time, had a heart attack while jogging in Central Park, and died. He turned 66 last March. HELLO DOLLY My wife aad daagoter disagree with me. The person who played the young milliner and sang Ribbons Down My Back in the original Broadway production of Hello Dolly did have a beautiful voice and was indeed Eileen Brennan of Private Benjamin fame. The only point I would disagree with is when you say she with Carol Charming. Miss Channing was the sole star of that show, and Miss Brennan had a top featured role. SCRIPT READERS Caa yoa give me the addresses of the executives or writers who read scripts for Diffrenl Strokes, Forts J.S., of Life aad Webster? Eldorado, Ark. Writers don't read scripts, they write them. Executive producers pass on scripts the writers write. ea-urr- - However, if you are thinking of submitting scripts to those shows, be aware that they will not be read but instead wil be returned to you. Scripts are never accepted for TV series unless they come through an accredited literary agent. That's so there won't be any charges of plagiarism, because as you know two people can be thinking up the same basic idea at the same time. If you want to write the executive producers of those shows for some other reason, write again and 1 11 tell you the names and addresses. Or, if you read credits, you can pick up producers' names and call the local station that carries the shows to check for each show's address. DEAR DICK: Tin a big Simon & Simon faa.
