NEW YORK A Central U.S. Areas Getting Dense Fog By United Press International Thick fog reduced visibility to as little as 20 feet in the Southern Plains today and the National Weather Service warned Thanksgiving travelers to be prepared for snow and ice in the Central Plains and mountain states. Fog extended from Louisiana to Colorado and western Kansas early today. Flights into Denver's Stapleton International Airport experienced long delays because of poor visibility. In central Texas, motorists reported they could see only 2V teet aneaa of their headlights. Numerous automobile accidents were blamed on the fog, but no serious injuries were reported. The NWS posted travelers advisories for dense fog from southeast Louisiana through Texas and into the foothills of Colorado. More warnings for motorists were issued throughout the Central and Northern Plains, where a wide band of light snow and freezing drizzle glazed highways. Snow also was reported hampering travel in the California Sierras and in Nevada's Tahoe Basin. Winter storm watches were posted from Colorado through Michigan as a system posed a threat of developing into a snowstorm later today.
