I sect Although it s been fashionable in recent years to mourn the demise of Jie work ethic pride in doing a job well is the highest priority of the typical American worker, according to a national survey conducted by a Brigham Young University DC WASHINGTON, In an exchange with Federal Reserve Board Chairman G G William Miller 1 S Senator Jake Gam emphasised that the nation s economic health will not improve "until we look at government as the principal cause of in- we are actively considering local interment of the remains because the tropical climate, sanitary problems and the lack of local facilities makes preservation of the bodies difficult The Jody of the Jones -namesake of the town and leader of the Temple was found face up among his lifeless followers His mistress was found dead in bed with another woman investigators said The remaining cult members ran into jungles rife with quicksand and piranha fish rather than participate in the mass suicide Many who The Utah Republican suggested to Mr. Miller school. Although that administration efforts to quell inflation most of the workers reported highly favorable attitudes toward the value of work, their feelings about their own company and specific job were much closer to neutral. The worker's age also had an influence on his or her responses, Dr. Cherrington found. Getting more money was viewed as more desirable by young workers than by older workers. "This is probably because the younger workers make less," suggested Dr. Cherrington. "For example, it was found that the e monthly pay of young males was only 62 of the take-hom- e percent pay of older male workers." Pride in craftsmanship was found to be of lesser importance to younger workers, too. Leisure time was listed as more desirable to the younger workers, and they also indicated that they were more inclined to accept welfare or financial help from family and friends, if necessary, than the older workers. "There are three probable reasons for the differences between the younger and older workers," said Dr. Cherrington. "First, the worker's perspective undoubtedly changes as he or she gets older. Second, older workers, having lived through the Depression of the 1930s and World War II, probably had their attitudes shaped by the hard times they experienced. And third, older workers were probably taught, the character ehtic in their homes and schools, whereas the younger workers were probably taught the personality ethic." Two significant differences were found between the work attitudes of male and female employees. Males felt more strongly that work should be one of the most important aspects of life. Women, however, d were more than men in terms of pride in craftsmanship, doing a good job and serving others. The value of hard work, perseverance and industry complex through economic programs and voluntary controls are "missing the wage-and-pri- point. While I hope they work, we are not doing nearly enough to control spending in the public sector." business voluntarily exercise restraints when the federal government continues its big spending habits?" he asked. Garn also questioned the Federal Reserve chairman on his attitudes toward imposing mandatory wage and price controls if voluntary programs fail. Mr. Miller said he would op pose mandatory controls, adding that they are "inequitable, don't work, and simply put off the final day of reckoning." "I'm very pleased that Mr. Miller recognizes the inherent folly of mandatory controls," Sen. Garn noted. Hachman estimates Utah's prime reproductive population at 20 or 21 percent of the total population. Nationally the figure is only 17 percent.
