The Army Ambulance Corps was established by Congress, March 11, 1864. SALT LAKE CITY Gov. Scott M. Matheson proclaimed this past Wednesday, as "10-- 4 DayCB Recognition Day," honoring Citizens Band radio's 20th anniversary. In his proclamation, Governor Matheson noted the growth of CB radio and its social aspects "friendships formed, the monotony of tedious journeys broken, communications established between home and business." The Governor continued by praising CB's practical side "emergency help and information, disasters averted and the citizenry kept informed." "10-4- " is the most widely known of the code words used in CB language and other radio transmissions. It acknowledges receipt of a message and means "okay" or "I understand." The governor's proclamation pointed out "since the Federal Communications Commission established Class D Citizens Radio in 1958, over 13 million station licenses have been issued authorizing the use of 30 million CB transceivers." He also said, "Only the telephone has had such a major impact on the American personal communications scene." Governor Matheson joins the nation's other governors as well as many federal officials in observing "10-- 4 Day." The Oct 4 celebration highlights a special yearlong anniversary program sponsored by 'the Electronic Industries Association which includes the honoring of former First Lady, Betty Ford, as "CB's First Mama," and recognizes her early use of CB radio. In addition to various national and statewide "10--4 Day" ceremonial activities hosted by federal, state and local officials, and CB user groups, many CB radio and accessory manufacturers will be celebrating CB's 20th anniversary with special "10--4 Day" merchandising programs for participating distributors and local retailers.
