Show By LYN CONNELLY ABOUT month ago, a young teen-ager named Tommy Sands made his dramatic debut on Kraft Television Theatre ... He played the lead in "The Singin' Idol," which wai a take-off on the teens' madness for Elvis Presley , . . Tommy plays the guitar and sings and does both well . . . He's 19 and shows a great deal of promise ... we were especially happy to see him make the grade because we worked with him when he was only 12 and doing a Children's Chil-dren's television show in Chicago. At that time. Tommy mooned over his Idol, Eddy Arnold, and said his only ambition was to grow up to be another Arnold . . . He played and sang folk tunes with such appeal that no one doubted he was indeed another Arnold in the making . . . seven years isn't a very long time, but it has certainly made a great difference . . . Instead of Eddy Arnold, Tommy Tom-my finds himself following the footsteps of Elvla Presley, an exponent ex-ponent of rock 'n roll, which wasn't even around when Tommy was doing western songs . . . Yes, seven years can be a century in the entertainment field. The solo is 'Swingin' Down the Lane" with "How Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down on the Farm?" The Four Preps come up with couple of goodies. "Moonstruck in Madrid" and "I Cried a Million Tears" . . . Nat King Cole does a polished job on a recent favorite, "Ballerina" . . . "You Are My First Love" backs it . . . Don Robertson has a new disc that should do well, "Fantasy" backed t7 'Rockwjr, |
