Coleman said the biggest problem facing forest officials is the extreme "closeness" of the Wasatch population centers to major recreation areas. "There Isn't too much of the forest that a person cannot reach either by existing roads or trails. But unfortunately, some of the public isn't satisfied with what roads already exist, they have to push over the next hill and see what's there. That's when the environmental damage occurs." Coleman said the Travel Plan contains a full explanation of boundaries for each restriction the Forest Service has adopted. There are also seven exemptions on the use of roads and trails in the Mt. Nebo area. Hunters planning, to visit that area are advised to get a copy of the Travel Plan from any district ranger office in Heber City, Pleasant Grove, Spanish Fork or the main Uinta office in Provo at 88 W. 100 N. Gary Coleman, recreational staff officer for the Uinta National Forest, said the Travel Plan places four major restrictions on the use of forest areas by off road vehicles. Even though a public review period for the plan ended Sept. 26, Coleman said the public is still free to submit suggestions and comments to Forest Supervisor Don Nebeker in Provo. The first of the designations regulates travel on forest system roads and trails already established. The second area is open with the same provisions as the first, with the exception that a seasonal closure is placed on these areas from Dec. 31 to May 1 for the protection of wintering wide corbig game herds.
