Show Call Him 'Sedate Sam' McDowell By MURRAY OLDERMAN SAN FRANCISCO (NEA) -Sam McDowell was in his black find blue period. The suit was sedate black. The shoes were gleauing black patents. This was Sudden Sam McDowell, the egregious lefthander who has been pitching in the major leagues for eight years, with yo-y-o results, and now has charrjed uniforms for the first time, from the Cleveland Indians to the San Francisco lost 102 games. In fact, of the eight seasons Sam toiled in Cleveland, sii were on the losing side. And yet he shows a career total of 122 victories, including a 20ame campaign in 1970 which made him the American League Pitcher of the Year.
