Lined B an National forest areas along the Wasatch Front closed to camp-fir- e building and smoking since July 1, were reopened Wednesday, according to Regional Forester Floyd Iverson. Fire building and smoking outside designated campground and picnic areas has been prohibited along the Wasatch Front this summer because of the high burnd ing conditions and numerous fires, Mr. Iverson said. About 50 d fires have been reported on the Cache, Wasatch and Uinta National Forests so far this summer. This is a substantial decrease from previous years totals, and much of this decrease can be attributed lo greatest appb pic forest blazes, but all hunters, campers and picnickers are urged to maintain caution. Campfires should be built in a safe place, "drowned" before they are left, and all' matches and cigarettes should be "dead out." Three officers of 3rd Battle Group, 38th Infantry have been named new company commanders of three Central Utah Army Reserve units, Lt. Col Robert; E. Bunker, Battle Group commander, reported today. Named as commender of Headquarters Company, with headquarters in Provo is Capt. John S. Berge, 92 W 800 S., Orem, a geologist in the research laboratory at Geneva Steel Works. He replaces Capt. Allen B. Nelson, 580 Sagewood, Provo, a chemical engineer at' Geneva Steel Works, who was named as sistant Battle Group training 'officer. . , .Utah County UN Group Picks Officers John W. Conkling, Provo., this week; was elected president of the Utah County Chapter of the Utah Association for the1 United Nations. He succeeds George E. ' Ballif. Dr. Richard Poll was elected to the state board fox the Utah association. The association is a branch of a nationwide citizens group designed to foster interest in and support for the United Nations. It is an educational and serivce organization rather than political. A special 'meeting has been set by the chapter for Sept. 26 at 7:30 p,m., in the Provo City Council room, to which will be invited representatives of mayors and high schools throughout, the county to coordinate plans for UN Day observances in October. Mrs. Claude Ashworth, member of the state boardv reported that plans this year for statewide observance of UN Day include a reception for 600 foreign students at the State Capitol Building followed by their attendance as guests of the association at a Utah Symphony performance in Salt Lake City. Plans have , also begun for the high school mock General Assembly meeting held annually at the University of Utah and financed in part by the Utah association.
