Show the American nation commemorates the 104th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Fifty million of bosoms will swell in patriotic ecstacy in remembrance of the proclamation of the proudest and noblest political document that over mirrored and asfited a people's rights and a people's will. the al Whoever contemplates vauce made, the progress acco. uplisb-ein a century, will undoubtedly oricede that there are inextinguinh-ablelements of vigor and vitality in this people; the germs of a grandiraii'l greatness destined to absorb aii nations and carry the standard of civiliz-uio- n alol't before all tribes of man. True, there is wickedness and evil; corruption reigns in high places and dishonors humble cots: virtue here and there, now and tliu,iecede(-beforthe Haunting impudence of ice; trim and honest men lire consigned to humble walks of life, while and rogues wield a pernicious power and infamous influence. ( 'huiches are deserted while place-o- f ill fume are resplendent in marble and guilt cornices. Arsenals are orammed with the engines of destrucs with the viction and tims ef oppressive monopolists. Still there is a Power behind the veil, the same Power that inspired the frariHes of the Declaration of 1776. That same Power still works "in a mysterious way;" but it works steadily and all evil and ill will event ually be purged out, all corruption will be eraeed and righteousness will be established on the foundation of ISSUED EVERY EVENING. D. Merrill, of Johnstown, Barry County, just north ef this city, who has found lately upon his farm, numerous relics of ancient origin, plowed up, a few days ago, a most about peculiar copper arrow-head- , ix inches long and three inches wide at the shank. It runs to a sharp point, and the edges are nearly at sharp as a knife. The metal f which it is wrought is pure, and the weapon was evidently made for efficient service. The arrow head was plowed up on a spot which was occupied for the last twenty years by a stone heap. About two years ago he found a copper knife iu grading for the railroad between the villages of Halting! and Kalamazoo, and it is now in the possession of the Hon. Daniel Striker, of Hastings. Mr. Striker ha also an image of a bear about the size of a mall cub, carved in hard stone, which was found a short distance north of Hastings. It is thought that these implements were used by the Indians at least two centuries ago, as the relic was covered with eight inches ol solid earth. It lossible that it was an instrument of death introduced among thesavages ky theeilieH French settlers or traders, Wut all this is mere conjee tare. It w certainly an interesting subject for the antiquarian and llio-'who ai-- curium to investigat" the fact of aboriginal hutory.
