A movement is on foot to organize a gcnerl telephone system for Ogden, in connection with that of the company now formed at Salt Lake City. The idea" is to run wires from erne business house to another, from one residence to another, and in fact that telephonic communication may be a settled fict in every household Gentlemen are now engaged in tak-- ( ing up contributions for the affair, and as those connected, with the enterprise are prominoat gentlemen we may depend upon having something substantial in thiS line before long. Sunday afternoen, at about 3 o'clock, tha office of the Keeney House was the scene of a lively fracas, which fortunately created more noise than harm. Two men, hailing from Fark City, by the names of Ed. Coyle and John Mars-field- , had for two nights previous to Sunday, occupied night's lodgings at the Union Depot Uotel of this city, the latter, time only making their appearance at 2 o'clock Sunday muii.iiig. In the forenoon of said day, Mansfield received the visit of a stranger with the ccgnomen of Ross, who accused the former of having made a slight mistake in ex changing a parcel belonging to him (Ross) with some of his own. Mans- :!e!d seemed to admit thecorrectness of his visitor's charge, and the bun dles returned into the possession of their legitimate owners. This man Mansfield seems to have been subject to a regular fit of with regard to the listinction of tha ownership of port able objects. At least, this is the version of one L. Willis of Willow Creek, who while eating supper in a restaurant on Fifth Street, on Satur day evening, missed his ulster short ly after the aforesaid pair, Coyle and Mansfield, had left the victualizing Our ever vigilant establishment. W. Brown, was informed of sheriff, the suspicion resting upon fie two illustrious strangers, and he was not long in dropping upon the forget ful Mansfield in a house on Main Street, on Sunday afternoon. Mans field showed the whits "feather at once, and promised to find the ulster if he was allowed to repair to the depot. This favor was granted him, but with his usual carefulness Sheriff Brown kept on the track of the other parly, having with hira Mr. Ross, the gentleman who had had the aforementioned transaction with Mansfield, and a certain William Kerns.' Arrived at the Keeney House, Mansfield's voluntary bodyguard dispersed for a moment, and while Kerns was conversing with Mr. Tyler, the affable clerk of the Keenoy House, Mansfield came in through the front door, and with unparliamentary language accosted Kerns, drawiag his 44 caliber bull dog revolver, and emptying the unpalatable contents of five of its chambers promiscuously. Two shots took effect in the person of Kerns, who was, however, preteoted with rather heavy clothing apparel; the rest of the lead scattered in all directions without further harm than to the wall of the locality. Mansfield, who escaped during the" hubbub immediately created by the fusillade, was afterwards reached and secured by the long but sure arm of justice. His faithful Fylades, Coyle, suffered a similar fate. The wounded man was taken care of and is said to be feeling tolerably comfortable now. mindedness 8:i A Oils, Paints) London Fosrs 1880. Miss Bowring acted charmingly, and the Misses Douglas fairly captivated the audience, es pecially Miss Nettie, whose song, "The Chink of Gold," was loudly encored. But the gem of the even ing was the Statues, represented by Misses Lizzie Watson, Leonora Farr, and Susie Field. They were never done better anywhere by anybody, and well deserved the plaudits of the audience. They were perfection itself. We cannot overlook Miss Yamblo, Mr. Rich, Mr. O. J. Wright and Mr. G. G.Taylor, all ef whose parts were enacted up to, if not beyond the standard of the advanced amateur. In the farce, Mr. Joe Wright was immense; so was Shiells and likewise Taylor; Mrs. Joit has "been there before, and this painstaking lady fully sustained her reputation; while Miss Herrick was pleasing and made an excellent appearance. Altogether, the performance was a success and the management deserve congratulation. Mrs. Watson's arrangement of the statues d isplay ed t hat lady's excellent taste and skill to great advantage.
