The Liverpool election is appointed for next Tuesday, the tories having hastened the day from alarm at ihe improving chances of the liberals since Lord Ramsay secured ihe Irish vote. Few liberals believe it possible to overcome the tory majority. Many persons object to Lord Ramsay's compromise with the home rulers. Lady Ramsay, who is young and pretty, is energetically canvassing for her husband. The Earl of Derby having authorized the statement that he hopes for Ramsay's success, he is bitterly attacked by the tory organs. . When Mr. W. T. As is the usual oustora the family sent his faverite dog, Flora a fine pointer, to the room to wake him. When she got into the room she found that her master had a bedfellow. After groping around, among the bed clothes she found something she considered game, her nose over the By rubbing speaker's face she caused him to awake and as soon as she could attract his attention "pointed" to another part of the bed. Mr. Lock-wooknew something was wrong and immediately sprang out and to look through the bed. He did not proceed far until he found a young rattlesnake, about a year old, cosily coiled under the cover. The dog stood watching while the intruder was captured, and after which she showed by every means possible that she was glad, and her master appreciates that she has as much sense as anybody. d le-ga- Do you feel that any one of your organs your stomach, liver, bowels, or nervous system, falters in it work? EVBNINO session. Washington, Feb. 2. It was near 8 o'clock when the speaker called the house to order. Very few were present, but the seats of the absentees were occupied by ladies, and the galleries were closely packed with spectators. The speaker gracefully introduced Charles Stewart Parnell, of Ireland, (clapping of hands), rarnell said the American public opinion would be of greatest importance in enabling them to obs tain a settlement of the Irish question. He proceeded to speak of the tenure of land in Ireland as being the most pressing question of that country, and quoted the tes timony of the historian, Froude, againBt the principle of private pro perty in land, lie also quoted ap provingly the New York Natum against the idea of immigration as a remedy. He proposed to imitate the, example of Prussia and other continental countries where feudal tenure had been tried, found want ing and been abandoned. He proposed to give an opportunity tc every occupying farmer in Ireland to become the owner of his own farm. He referred to John Bright's pro position for a company to advance money for the purchase of Irish farms, and criticized Bright for shrinking from asking the English parliament to sanction that princi ple. In conclusion he said that it would be a proud boast for America If she would by the force of her public opinion alone, and by the respect with which ail peoples looked upon any sentiment prevailing in America, to obtain for Ireland without shedding one drop of blood, without drawing a Bword, without one threatening message, to aid in the solution of that great quesin tion. He wai proud and the belief that in the way he had mentioned and in no other way, America would be an important factor in the solution of the Irish land question. (Applause).
