There is still great excitement over the contest, which now seems to have narrowed down to Rowell and Ennis. Harri- man's brilliant work of yesterday appears to have exhausted him and this evening he was frequently off the track between 3 and 8 o'clock. He looked weary and dragged out and it was rumored he had broken down or nearly so. Betting was 100 to 50 on Rowell, 100 to IU against Harriman and 100 to 40 against Ennis. The tremendous pullhas told on the men, but Ennis appeared to be least affected ,and he walks and runs at fine gait without any soreness or' difficulty. Rowell's ankle and heel are said to be troubling him but this his trainers posi tively deny and the amrm tnat ne was never ina better condition. At six o'clock Ennis who had been gradual ly closing up the gap between himself and Harriman passed him on the 314th mile amid tremendous applause. From that onward he left Harriman behind and drew on toward Rowell's figures. He received bounteous applause and made some very rapid walking. Rowell finished the 3wth mile at 7:4a and retired until 10:40. Harriman completed the 320th mile at 8:17, then left the frank and had not reanneared at 10:30. Ennis continued walking and betting on him continued to go up gradually and he is looked upon as a dark horse of the race now about showing himself. Betting at midnight was 4 to 1 on Rowell. 20 to 1 against Harriman and 5 to 1 against Ennis. Ennis finished his 335th mile at 1U:U8 and lett tracK. Harriman came on at 11:03 and walked stiff and lame. He finished his 335th mile at 12:12 and retired. Rowell came on at 10:48 p.m., look ing fresh and started on a brisk trot.
