Show THE SENTINEL ... Salt Lake Temple Setting for June-- 6 if 4 - ' -. v- - ( Mr The seventh annual Utah Arts Festival will be held June 22 through June 26 from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. daily. The festival is held outdoors by the Salt Palace and Symphony Hall on West Temple Street in downtown Salt Lake City. It is a tradition with the festival to offer a vast array of arts, including performing a artists, groups, visual children's art yard and a wide variety of ethnic foods. Each year the festival strives to bring new and exciting projects to Utah. The visual artists' project does just that by opening new horizons to artists by challenging them to apply their talents to a new medium. The festival's visual artists' project this year is a billboard project. Three designs were selected submitted to from ninety-fou- r the festival. Each design selected has been handpainted on a 14' x 48' billboard by the artist and reproduced on twenty 21'8" x 10' billboards by Reagan Outdoor Advertising. The result of the artists' handpainted work is spectacular. The large scale of the paintings presents an overwhelming image that will loom above festival guests as they walk through the festival ; and Mrs Tom Beard Nelson, Tuttle choose June 30 The sixty reprogrounds. ductions of the three designs will be set up in locations throughout the state and will remain up throughout the month of June. The festival has selected seventy visual artists from Utah and other states in the West to participate in the festival. The artists will bring beautiful and unusual arts and crafts including pottery, stained glass, textiles, paintings, woodwork and jewelry to display and sell from their booths on the plaza and lawn in front of Symphony Hall. Once again the Children's Art Yard will be the focal point of the festival for children and their parents. Each year the art yard Janet Nelson and Steven 0. Tuttle have chosen June 30, 1983 to be married. The couple will be married in the Jordan River Temple. ,r The newlyweds will be honored at a reception that evening in Spanish Fork, Utah. Inter-mounta- in Janet is a recent graduate of Weber State University. Steven graduated from Snow College and is presently attending the University of Utah. The parents of the bride are Mr and Mrs G. Marvin Nelson, Spanish Fork. The parents of the groom are Mr and Mrs Dennis R. Tuttle, South Jordan. Steven Tuttle and Janet Nelson Ona Payne Freeman, Moser tie knot on June 11. Jodene Freeman and Kevin Andrew Moser were married June 11, 1983 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, with president Hanks Marion officiating. Following the ceremony the newlyweds were feted at a wedding breakfast at the White House given by the groom's parents, Mr and Mrs Gerald A. Moser, Midvale. They were honored at a reception that evening at the McCune Mansion. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Keith Bagley, Layton. The groom is the son of Mr and Mrs Robert Beard, Midvale. Bridesmaids were Pat B. Wright, Sue B. Toyer, Barbara B. Holdaway, Diane Beard Lee, and Wendy F. Bagley. Best man duties were performed by Scott Latimer. Ushers were David Bagley and R. Paul, Michael, Kevin and Richard Beard. The bride is a graduate of Layton High and BYU. The groom graduated from Hillcrest and is attending the U of U. The bride has completed an LDS mission to Tallahassee, Florida and the groom to Padova, Italy. Showers were given by the bride's family, Lori Beard, Karen Smart, and ward friends. The couple plans to live in Salt Lake City where the groom works for the LDS Church and the bride will teach home economics at Viewmont High. Thursday, June 23. 1983 j .V arts offers participatory activities for children. Painting, weaving, singing, pottery, celebrates 83 years Parents of the bride are Mrs Betty B. Freeman, Salt Lake City, and Dean L. Freeman, Arizona. Mrs Freeman honored the couple at a reception at the Millcreek eighth ward. Attending the bride were Janet Helland, Diane Mathews, Shauna Moser, Susan Reese and Daniel Gardner. Charissa Larsen served as best man. Head ushers were Brian Moser and Mike Mansfield. Also ushering were Ronald and Richard Moser. Joani Gueshner, was at the guest book. The bride is a graduate of Granite High and is now attending the U. of U. The groom graduated from Hillcrest and has been a student of the U. of U. He has fulfilled an LDS England London mission. Following a honeymoon in St. George and Lake Powell the couple will make a home in Salt Lake and he will continue his studies at the U. Entertaining for the bride prior to her marriage were Cherrinda Gardner, Karen and Joan Beck, Janet Hell and Diane Mathews, Marva Paulsen and Beverly Esmeyer. " Ona Payne will be celebrating her 83rd birthday at an open house given by her family on Saturday, June 25, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Marjorie Allsop's home, 547 E. 6295 S., Murray. and dancing theatre , ' performances will entertain even the most exuberant child. This year children will share in of the construction giant e scarecrows and a e cave dwelling papier-machlife-siz- along with the making of a community quilt and a group weaving. Children can create fanciful sculptures at the art yard's beach, a 40' x 8' sandbox complete with a backdrop of blue sky and seagulls. The Children's Art Yard is open from 11 a.m. until 8 p.ni. Wednesday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday. ' The performing arts schedule is a rare mix of ballet, opera, rock 'n roll, jazz, bluegrass, ethnic and modern dance. One of the performances highlighting the festival will be the Repertory Dance Theatre and the Salt Lake Goodtime Jazz Band, joined in a celebration of modern dance and dixieland jazz on the Main Stage, Wednesday, June 22 at 8 p.m. Utah's acclaimed Dance Company will perform on the Main Stage, Thursday, June 23 at 8 p.m. The Main Stage features Ballet West at 8 p.m. on Friday night, June 24 and the Utah Symphony joined by the Utah Opera Company at 8 p.m. Saturday night, June 25. Colorful food booths and carts will offer a variety of tantalizing drinks and food. A few of the dishes guests may select are spicy Creole and canjun seafood, Japanese yakitori, barbequed shark, savory Navajo tacos, Chicago-styl- e geordanos and and Caribbean and West Indian seafood. Guests can also alleviate the dogday heat of summer with refreshing shaved ice snow cones, New York a hot fudge sundae or fresh fruit smoothies. The festival's demonstrating craftsmen will be on hand daily from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. to demonstrate the techniques used in rope making, basket weaving and rug braiding. They will also teach festival guests the art of making Armenian bagpipes, rugs, dulcimers and Kabuki masks plus much more. Country and Western music fans will have their night when KSOP presents Billy "Crash" Craddock at the festival. Craddock will perform his hits ' "Come a Little Bit Closer," "Ain't Nothin' Shakin'" and "Afraid I'll Want to Love Her One More Time" in Symphony Hall June 22 at 8 p.m. Friday, June 24 at 7: 15 p.m. in Ririe-Wood-bu- ry red-ho- ts egg-cream- water-witchin- g, thru T - ' (- figured preschool discussion meetings set A preschool concept called TCJ Parent Groups will be discussed at meetings on Wednesday, June 22, and Thursday, June 23. Richard and Linda Eyre, Marie Osmond, and the Dick Van Patten family will be special guests via video tape. Based on the best selling book Teaching Children Joy, by the Eyres, TCJ advocates using the impressionable preschool years not to teach reading or math, but to teach children the capacities for various types of joy . In a tribute to music's donation to film, the Utah Arts Festival in cooperation with the Utah Media Center is presenting Music and Movies as this year's film event. Ten musical hits from 1935 to 1981 will take to the screen in the Creer Auditorium at the Salt Lake Art Center. Festival guests can see Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers dance to the music of Irving Berlin in Top Hat or the Beatles rocking and rolling in A Hard Days Night. Other classics to be screened are The Magic Flute, by Ingmar Bergman, Cabaret, Bob Fosse's academy award film starring Liza Minnelli and Dumbo, Walt Disney's animated film. The films will be shown at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. daily.
