The Jordan River, once dismissed as an open sewer, is rapidly changing that image and fishing pressure is up, especially on the stretches south of 9000 S. The river has already received its yearly allotment of 4,000 rainbow trout in four separate plants stretching back to April 4 with the last on May 4. It also has a native population of nice sized browns, some channel catfish, and an occasional walleye, when they're running. Planting of Big Cottonwood Canyon began on May 29 with 2,000 fish and will continue with 1,000 fish plants every week to 10 days or so, except near the middle of July and at the end of August, when 2,000 rainbows will be added to the stream. Wildlife conservation officers are naturally hesitant to release the exact dates of plantings for fear people will try to chase the fish truck around. Silver Lake near Brighton will also be stocked as soon as the snow and ice leave, hopefully sometime around the middle of June. It will receive approximaely 10,000 fish by the end of August. Several other lakes and ponds in the canyon will also be planted. ; X TAE. 7 nown d, el m m for opportunities dispersed recreation. Fees charged for use of developed unlimited 8732 S.
