Show Thursday, May 20, 1976 THE SENTINEL 4 Colonial flower arranging sets today's fashion trend 'Mt. Jordan on Parade' SANDY "Mt. Jordan on Parade" was the theme for an event held at Mt. Jordan Jr. High on May 11. A spring concert was presented by the girls' chorus and the mixed chorus, under the direction of Joan Rollins. The orchestra presented several numbers under the direction of James Gibson. Student art work was shown throughout the halls with displays in the mathematics, English, science, social studies, reading, and language classes, and shop department. There were also displays in the main foyer, cafeteria, and home economics rooms. Girls in the seventh grade presented exercises; eighth graders, rhythm Make your home come alive with an eighteenth century flower arrangement. Bringing flowers into a room can change all the lifeless objects like chairs and tables into a place that looks lived in. Right now, there are plenty of spring blossoms to choose for your favorite old vase. We have chosen a teapot which has the feeling of old dutch delft pottery. This has been inspired by the abundance of tulips in bloom. Added to the tulips are daffodills, scilla, and pink flowering plum branches. A reproduction of a bottle from the era of '76 adapts itself well to yellow branches of forsythia and two kinds of daffodills. Concerning eighteenth century rangements, ar- Edna Pennell, an experi Pursuant to enced flower arranger in restored Williamsburg, Va., states, "As far as we know, there were no rules for bouquet-makinin the old days. Women through the ages have picked and brought flowers into their homes because they loved them and loved to arrange them as prettily as they could, as they would colored threads in a piece of needlework." It seems that flower arranging in America has gone the full circle. We have started with the full symmetrical bouquets of colonial times, then advanced to asymmetrical massed arrangements, through the driftwood and rock phase, to the extreme modern arrangements using one or two flowers; and now we are back, just in time to celebrate the Bicentennial with the full symmetrical bouquet. sticks; was pre- sented New PTA officers installed were Mrs DeLoy Osborne, president; Mrs Mabel Jarvis, first vice president; Prin.
