Then, when you combine philosophy and humor in a fun comedy, comissioned by the University Theatre, with the excellent performance of William Shatner and a bright newcomer. Joan Payne, you have indeed a fine evening of theatre. Such seasoned local talent as that of Sherri Sailer and Stanley Russon add considerable 10 tlie cast. The title, itself, "'The Hyphen" needs explaining and therefore is an excellent title because it set you to wondering before you set" out what it indeed is is all about. Well it is all about scientists and fairies, that is what it is all about. And that can lead to a lot of interesting situations. Some of them thought a change to square dancing would be fun, and they asked the orchestra for some square dance music. Sorry the musicians knew only rock and roll. So four of the group formed a square anyway, and did a little experimenting in a far corner. They discovered that with a bit and youthful of imagination vigor they could adapt the beat to square dancing. Other squares caught on and joined in; still more followed, ing Virginia Reels and dosados until most of the crowd was the modern set continued with the favorites, and the band continued to pound out the only kind of rhthym it knew. Anyone who thinks square dancing and the watusi to the same music is wierd, impossible, or just plain nuts, has vastly underestimated how versatile these young folks are, and how capable they are of making the most of any situation. What we think it needs is to present the idea of the hyphen more succinctly, and build up the humor which is most delightful earlier in the pla.x and almost makes it in the third. Gu see this play.
