Utah music teachers will gather at Brigham Young : University today and tomorrow (Thursday and Friday) to attend the annual Utah Music Teachers Assn. (UMTA) music convention. . Teachers from across the state be will classes, attending demonstrations, workshops and recitals by world class artists and lecturers. .The conference is designed for professional music instructors , of both vocal and instrumental music. It is estimated that 45 percent of the population along the Wasatch Front are taking or have taken music lessons of some kind. The convention will be held at both BYU and the Excelsior Hotel. Dr. Paul C. Pollei, member of the BYU piano faculty, will be the keynote speaker. The American Piano Quartet, the BYU Brass Quintet and Xiang-don- g Kong, winner of the 1988 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition will be featured performers. The public is invited to attend the evening concerts held in with the UMTA conjunction Humpherys, Jeffrey Shumway and Mack Wilberg will perform at 7:30 p.m. today (Thursday) in the Madsen Recital Hall at the Harris Fine Arts Center on the - BYU campus. Xiang-donKong, this year's winner of the Gina Bachauer Internatinoal Piano Competition, will perform the same concert he presented in Alice Tully Hall in g at 8 p.m. Friday in New York City the Excelsior Hotel, 101 W. 100 North, Provo. ' Tickets for either event may be purchased at the door. Price of admission is $4 for the general public and $3 for students. Loosli, a West Valley resident was injured during an outing with his son Adam, who was at that time preparing to leave on an LDS mission.
