The Cancer Society is offering a leaflet, "Fry Now, Pay Later," which describes the three major types of skin cancer, identifying characteristics of each. It also discusses preventative measures and treatment. I According to the leaflet, overexposure to the sun is the most com- mon cause of skin cancer. In fact, about 90 percent of cases occur on parts of the body not usually covered. Those most at risk include people with fair skin who sunburn easily. The Cancer Society, recognizing the need for more information on lethal skin cancer, malignant melanoma, has also published "Why You Should Skin Cancer Record U. S. Cancer Society officials. Both of the Cancer Society publications encourage caution in the sun, avoiding the midday sun, using sun screens at the beach or pool and simply covering up. Tanning parlors should also be avoided, since they may be even more dangerous than exposure to the sun, according to American booklet.
