The Sound Effects, formerly known as Sing For Joy will perform a spring concert on Friday, May 10 at Eastmont Middle School, 10100 So. 1300 :ff 5 East. Senior Week Is Slated - I 255-646- The chorale was organized in October 1978 and is comprised of 27 members who are predominantly from the Sandy area. Director is Judy Prawitt and the accompanist is Geneva Burbank. On drums is Todd Berg, Marvin Mangum plays bass. Wayne Durrant is sound technician. The group has recorded at the Rosewood Recording Studio in Pro-vand placed third in the 1983 Great American Choral Festival. They participate in Christmas on Temple Square and the Festival of the Trees each year and participated in the Dickens Festival at the Triad Center this past Christmas. The chorale performs secular programs for various businesses in the Salt Lake area, the Utah Education Assn., BYU Education Week as well as providing sacred music for LDS services. The 1985 theme is "Senior Centers are Wellness Centers." This week has been selected to honor the role senior centers play in providing serof vices important to the senior citizens. The first senior center opened its doors in New York City 40 years ago. Today, local communities support over 8,000 senior citizens across the nation, serving more than seven million older persons. The Heritage Center opened in December of 1980. The site was donated by Murray City, and the center was built with Community Development money. It is currently operated by the city. The Heritage Center is a recreational facility where seniors may gather and participate in a planned program of services and activities, including health care, nutrition, education and recreation.
